V8V Evap test not passed since last DTC reset but passed in current cycle

Hello,

I am trying to understand the emission tests, and how the EVAP system test can be reporting PASSED for the current drive cycle, yet NOT PASSED since last DTC reset.

I had all code cleared about 2 months ago and drove the car a few times (~400mi and 10 drives) since the last reset.

I thought that if a test is passed during the current drive cycle, it would automatically be passed since the last DTC reset? Anyone familiar with this?

The car is a 2007 V8 Vantage and I am using the app called "Car Scanner" to read the codes.

Screenshot of the emission test result page:

Thank you.

Whenever you delete any fault codes, the IMs all reset to open (not passed). Many of them self correct very quickly after a restart and drives (under different speeds, etc.).
A couple of IMs, Evaporative system being the worst, take a looonnnng time to reset. Often, the evaporative IM alone will cause an emissions test to fail if someone deleted fault codes too soon before taking a car for a state test.

Eventually the evaporative system closes. What I see in your report is that. It reported the Evap had not reset after DCTs were cleared. then closed which is just about what to expect.

On these circa (Ford) cars usually a P1000 is produced when DCTs are cleared and IMs are not reset, then switches to a P1111 when they do (If memory serves, which is a long time ago for me).

Hi BWings,

Thanks for the answer! I am not sure I completely understand it though. Are you saying that clearing the codes doesn't reset the IM (in this case the one responsible for EVAP)? How do I fix this? Is it just about having more drive cycles with the test passing/closing each time?

Right now at the beginning of each drive all tests in the "current drive cycle" section are marked as NOT PASSED (open), and at the end of the drive all tests are green in the "current drive cycle" section, only the Evap system still shows NOT PASSED for the "since DTC reset" section.

Thanks!
