Anyone know about replacement of a cowl motor (2010 Roadster)

My Exotic Repair shop, who did my clutch with little to no drama and a high degree of honesty and transparency, have advised that the reason my V8V 6sp Roadster top won't open is because (after diagnosing it at some length) it needs a new "cowl motor". I tried researching this but have come up with virtually NOTHING relevant to the issue.
Q #1- has anyone else experienced this? And Q#2 - If so, what was involved? NOTE: I did mention this issue to the AM Dealer and they stated that the roof/convert module seems to be a weak link and that last fall they replaced 4 of them on AM roadsters.....Four!
But when I described how the top just would open only about 1/2 in or so, they then determined that it was NOT the module in question. They didn't comment specifically about the cowl motor but it is my distinct impression they did feel it was in fact the cowl motor (just as my Exotic Repair place indicated).
TIA for any insights or suggestions as how to proceed. My shop wants $2500 to do the work.......yea.....NOT right now ----whoa
