to lift the car at home with an uneven floor
to lift the car at home with an uneven floor
hello,
let see if i can get some help, i am planning to lift a rapide, to do the rear brake changes, and handbrake pads, ( i am still searching for which v12 source i need to open and close the pistons)
i am planing to lift the car with a jack only or the jackstand jackpoints large ones from the US,
i think i shall be able to do air filters changes, brake pads change this way.
one question i have to drain the oil i plan to use raceramps, the car will be lightly inclined then, do you think a quarter of a funnel will fits to avoid a mess with the oil staying on top of the undertray? what will you do to drain the oil, drive to a garage 30 km with the bad oil and new filter to lift it and drain it well ?
i will upload an image next of the garage's floor.

You really want the car to be level when you drain the oil to make sure to get all of it. It's also pretty much guaranteed that you're going to spill oil into the undertray when you pull the filter. I always get the undertray off to do the oil change. One of the best service items I purchased for my DB9 was a Bendpack Quickjack. You might be able to use the Quickjack on that surface with a sheet of plywood under them. The 5000SLX fits the DB9 perfectly, but you might need one of the TL/EL models for the longer Rapide.
thank you GA_DB9, yes i regret i didnt bought a quickjack before when it was easier for me. i will maybe get one later on.
i dont wnat aska garage here to remove the underneathplate, and do the oil filetr change i dont trust them they know nothing about, and wont look english video in spain, i must remove the oil filter myself and since i cant lift the whole car i will do it from the hood and set plastic bags and textile to try to minimise the problem, i am in the countryside far away.

i am looking at these jack pads wander if they will fit a rapide.
i drove 4000 kms since last oil chnage, still need to change the oil filter?, or not doing so and changing the oil only will help?
if due to low mileage and to make it easier for me , i keep the air filters assuming the dealer really chnaged them, and the oil filter, what do you think? i just go o a garage and update the oil only? is it better han nothing, or is it not worth it?

I really doubt those jack pads will work. The jacking points on our cars have a pretty unique shape. I've used a hockey puck in a pinch. Just make sure you stay close to the jacking points where the rubber plugs fill the holes. Do *not* jack the car from the inner frame rails.
Hsmprecision sells a set of jack pads if you are wondering what they should look like.

i emailed him wait his response but the fact the underneath of his pad has no rubber, i rather have a pad that fits the jack with a pin inside, ( and i prefer rubber) that a flat aera like his pucks? sorry and are they made of alu or metal? with taxes customa doing it its 30% on top, and shipping to spain
for 300e i prefer the jackpoint jackstand larger stand etc
" I've used a hockey puck in a pinch" is it a hockey puck with a pin inside, i am confused sorry what do you meant by "in a pinch"?
if i use a jack only, its better to secure it with 3 stone of 20 kilogs around so it does not move once the car is lifted?

Sorry, "in a pinch" is a bit of slang. It means "in an emergency" or "if you really need to" in this instance. And no, just a plain, unmodified hockey puck.
The HSM pucks are aluminum and do not have rubber. They rest against the unfinished aluminum structure of the car that's exposed to road debris anyway. You could cut a sheet of rubber to go between the HSM pads and the body, but I don't really see the point in that location.

thanks a lot. i just bought a good jack with nice different round rubber pads and i will secure the jack with big stones around too, will do the rear brakes first.
i was thinking to have rubber underneath hsm pucks between the jack rubber plate and his pucks so it be two rubber against each toher instead of one jack rubber on a metal pucks...
i prefer rubber myself. and thanks, still trying to figure out the 12v source i need for the hand brake pad change.
do you think if i use race ramp for the front, can i lift the car rear sides one at a time on stands so its flat to drain the oil? probably not a good idea...
if somebody use one of these for an aston which one did you choose?

and do you think i can use this wrench to unscrew the oil filter from engine bay, and i should go clockwise or counterclockwise to unscrew it from there do you know?
i got 4 stands too with rubber in case i can set it up on 4 stands otherwise i will try two side stands too.

i cut a 6 inches piece of abachi wood from my sauna, by 2 cm thickness, will stick it under the car with doble tape, and use a good rubber on jack and the stands too. no high expenses, its cool in the us you can get a quickjack at 1200$ but in europe i asked nl quickjack........

Make sure to read the frequently asked questions in this forum. There are a few decent DIY threads. The DB9 oil change should be identical to the Rapide.
https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...questions.html
Whether or not you remove the undertray, the recommendation to use absorbent pads around the oil filter is a good one. The filter holds decent amount of oil that goes everywhere as soon as you break it loose.

yes sure Thank you GA_DB9, i guess i will unscrew the filter slowly and make sure its in the bag or with absorbent pads around, i will try to set a bunch of textile which i can take back behind the filter....i will make a youtube video.if i had a benltey v12 i could use race ramp and its better inclined i heard....to drain the oil but for an aston its a big nono.

Thanks Hedged, no i didnt, i went to the amoc forum and they told me it was a big nono to do or help, before teher was more help from amoc...but i watched many youtube videos, i think i m good to go now.
thanks
well i just went there and i red that for a lhd the only way to remove the oil filter is from the engine bay, cause the steering colum wont let you from underneath, so the undertray removal for me worth much less...

Interesting about AMOC....I have not yet used them as a resource. After ten years of ownership I have bookmarked countless AM sites, but 6Speed & PistonHeads are the two that I find the most interesting/helpful. Good luck with your upcoming work!
Hedged , when i contacted the dealer ex aston martin dealer in valencia, and thye gave me a run around 2 weeks, i wnated to know the quotes for 3 things, i sent 6 emails, i called them maybe 5 times and i never could know nothing, in 8 years they serviced my car and they never asked for a vin number, this time they asked my vin 3 times and never responded me, i was offended by their attitude and they forgot twice to screw back things underneath the car, i openned a thread on pistonheads to tell my story and i was banned for having 2 username they told me, i didnt even remembered i had 2 username but i often forget my password etc so it was why...i spent 20 k euros with this dealer and suddenly they played with me like this....quadis valencia, nobody has an aml formation there , they just hired people like this to work on cars. i thought i spent 14k but yesterday i counted all my invoices and its nbear 20k i spent, and if you see / heard them how they talked to me and played 2 weeks long not informing me nothing, you wont believe me, at the end the guy told me i will forward you to the part department, after 2 weks trials , but the part dept wont give me 3 quotes i needed....i wnated to know vat and the hours of service etc....one of the manager from barcelona same company contacted me and instead of taking my defense and resolved all, he was like them, telling me i was speaking bad, i was just reporting the run around they gave me and no help from the manager from barcelona, there is too many cars inside to trust them they can't do good. its simple. when i bought my car it was under warranty, i had a problem, i wnet there 7 tiems without success, andy palmer then sent his best tecnician 3 days in valencia to resolve the issue, they re good to do an oil change or brakes changes.....but if soemthign happen, nobody has formation, the manager a right wing spanish style, the kind that if you go 7 times for an issue they cant resolve and you ask them to lend you an oil tap/cover, the one you screw after filling up, to give a try to resolve the problem, they will tell you no sorry, then not long after they lost the brand. i got my electrical harness eaten by rats on the amoc forum Martin services was col and help us out to find out where it could be, and poiunted out the innner wheels, the dealer resolved the problem but they told me they spent 60 hours, and charged me 20 hours only, while it was right underneath the innerwhelel and it didnt take them that long, so i lost trust in them, the manager at that time has changed since....a new guy called Falmeone shows up and its him who gave me a run around 2 weeks, asking me to emails to dif emails address without responding what ever i do and despite my calls, i thought i should not insist like that. let valencia die, and its a dying city. quadis is a huge firm, with 40 cars brand like you see ofte in spain, they wons all, and if a car rband does discount, they try to skip it to make more money, they are like spanishs sharks like the politics you see today, not different. i m not into big corporates anymore. i suffered enough of these distribuidores in spain who rejected us so i know a lot about these type of guys. they re not rich for me. Since 1st of March i want do the brakes, then a friend who owns a garage here offered to help by mistake he ordered am pads he was charged 850 e for and got mad at me got refunded and have me wait weeks, i gave up. i will do it myself, in spain its like a club of old womens, if you have a dispute with one, they are all against you, their strentgh? its when there is no affinities at all, they could take 20k from me though but then they break like a cup of cristal.... i looked yesterday and i even drove less than i was thinking, i drove like 2000 kms in 2,5 years...imagine...maybe i could leave the oil filter in? and if the air filters were replaced 2000kms ago do, you think i need new ones? they even affected my dad 84 years old he was waiting i do the service and maybe visit them, a real bummer i wont forget, but its good to learn and grow and do it yourself. not depends on such. i do not trust anymore since, and its better this way, i hated before to not trust but its what i am pushed to do now.
