Dipstick Markings

I got a private message from "SpainConnection" asking me to measure the dipstick markings because his had no marks. I told him I would reply via the main forum so that I could upload some pics. Note that the angle of the photograph shows the tape slightly longer that the dipstick. This is not so. The end of the tape and the end of the dipstick are at the same level. These photographs should give you (spainconnection) an idea where to mark yours.

Good luck

spainconection is infamous around these parts
Ok, thanks for the help, by the way I haven't received any private message, it's okay, thanks also to FRAN, who sent me a PM.
This weekend I'm going to see if the oil dipsticks from cars from different years are the same as mine.

You guys really need to identify what car/engine you’re talking about, at least for the purposes of the public discussion. That dipstick looks nothing like the one for my DB9.

Interesting. Not the first mark on the 4.7 dipstick, which would be dependent on the length of the dipstick. What's interesting is the distance between the first and second marks. On the 4,3 engine it's a bit less than an inch and a half.
On the 4.7 engine it's about 4.5 inches. The difference in engine size in minimal, uses AFAIK the same amount or oil in the dry sump system.

I believe it's 1.75" on the 4.7 engine.
Measurements are in mm, right?

Approx measurements are in inches. The 4.7 had the larger distance between the marks.

@embdenb I think you're reading cm, as @EJ_Rapide noted. The ruler in the 4.7 pic has both inches and cm, but the ruler in the 4.3 pic shows only inches. Looks to me like the distance between marks on the 4.7 dipstick is about 1.75" or roughly 4.5cm -- very similar to the 4.3.

You are correct. Apologies, the two dipstick markings are similar
