Here are the infamous bulkhead bolts that rattle the dashboard.

I've been having the issue of a rattling noise coming from the dashboard near the defrost vents. It started happening pretty consistently at low speed vibrations and was becoming very annoying.
After doing some research I found this thread where @X7LDA explains where they are, https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...e-problem.html
So I wanted to post pictures and show how I reached them.

The bulkhead bolts are underneath the defrost vents. T30 torx same as those holding the engine covers or wheel liners.
Depending on your car the defrost vents could either be clipped on, or use 2 phillips head screws.
Regardless you will need a pivoting/swivel bit adapter because due to the windshield angle there's not enough space to use a straight tool.
You should also place a protective rag over the dash because you most certainly will scratch the vents or leather.
My vents have screws which are easily visible, so with some patience I swiveled the bit on there and undid them. Afterwards the vent can just be easily wiggled off.
Once the vents are off you can then see the 2 large bulkhead bolts near the same screw holes of the vents.
Then once again use the same swivel adapter but with a T30 torx bit to reach the bolts and tighten them. You will also need some extensions because it's difficult to reach.
Most of the time will be spent trying to get the bit properly seated in the screw/bolt holes, so exercise patience. You would not want to accidentally strip these.
Hope this helps!

Thank you. We're those 1/4 in or 3/8 in extensions?

That's both, 1/4 at the front and 3/8 in the back, just because that's all I had to work with.

Thanks for documenting the process. Do you know if this is a common issue and, if so, what model years tend to be affected?

I've read about a handful of people talking about that specific problem, but there are many other areas of interior rattles. I assume it effects all VH platform cars since they have the same interiors.
