Worse header DIY experience
Worse header DIY experience
After a long debate i decided to follow through with an attempt to install aftermarket headers. Prior to install, I drenched all nuts night before with penetrating lubricant. So anyways long story short, as i cracked away at the nuts, starting with ones attached to the block to loosen them up, 2 bolts on one side and 1 bolt on the other, dosent make a crack when i tried to loosen it up, felt like the bolt head was twisting and about to snap, so i sprayed more PB on it to help it loosen as remove the other bolts connecting the cat-bypass. 2 of those snapped. no big deal as they go right through the other end, needed replacing anyways. However i go back to the 3 bolts attach to the head and it really feels like its about snap
. So i stopped before i make matters worse. I go up stairs to grab new bolts for the cat-bypass flange to be able to drive to a shop. To my surprise, i come back and there's a HUGE spill of black oil underneath the car!!! I started to panic
. First thing i checked was my oil drain, everything was in check. Except I see drippings of oil coming from the corner to the rear.
So now, not only do i got 3 bolts on the verge of snapping off the block, i got leaking motor mounts!
Do you guys have any suggestion on the 3 bolts that pretty much will snap?
I was considering snapping them off completely and JB welding a nut to the stud and rachet it off once it was dried. That or take it to a shop and have it heated before going any further
Thanks for reading.

Heat the block and bolt with an acetylene torch, then quick-cool the bolt by pouring water directly on the bolt (avoiding the block). That should break the bond between the block and the bolt.
My suggestion is to forget the DIY if you don't have the time, equipment, expertise and patience for it and (as I do) let a pro handle all the wrench-work on the car. More time to sip drinks on the porch and less time scrubbing under your fingernails.
I know the water is already under the bridge on this one, but the best way to ensure you don't break stuff when you are trying to free potentially seized bolts is to use an impact wrench. It is really surprising how much of a difference impact makes in these situations - it is very rare to break a bolt this way. If you plan on DIYing, this is a must-have tool.
Getting back to your problem... now it's time to take it to a pro.

I snapped three bolts when removing my exhaust manifolds also. No matter what I did they snapped and were going to snapped. I tried to drill them out myself but it was just to difficult, etc. I brought the car down to my friends at Stuttgart Performance and they drilled out the old bolts and installed "time serts".. Cost a few $$ because the labor in hard. But, everything turned out good. Some words of advice--forget about welding nuts, trying to drill it yourself, etc., etc. Bring it to a good shop. And make sure they use time serts not helicoils.....
Thanks for all the advice guys!! Bringing it in to let the pros handle my mess! lol
Unfortunately i gotta wait till Monday cause all the good shops i know locally are closed on weekends.
It really does feel like they are gonna snap no matter what and no other way around it except have it drilled out.

I haven't been able to take it to the shop yet, however upon further inspecting it my self. I found out that i ruptured my motor mounts(Filled with oil), and had them leaking out all over the cement floor!.
Ordered some Torque Solution engine mounts off ebay so hopefully that should cover for the leak.
