Crystal Key and Reliable Mechanic

Hello All. I have an 2011 AM Rapide. Somehow I lost one of my crystal keys. I have looked everywhere and cannot find it. I want to make sure I have 2 keys. Good Lord I had no idea how expensive these keys are. I see some potential crystal keys online but the ads reference DB9 not Rapide...but. believe they are pretty similar. Can I use a DB9 key for a Rapide and have it programmed by the dealer?

The other question I have is if anyone on this forum has a suggestion for a good AM mechanic in south Florida? Fort LAuderdale in particular.

Thank you

Yes, you can use a DB9 key on a Rapide BUT you need to make sure you get the code that comes with it, otherwise the dealer won't be able to program it.

You are absolutely correct. Thank you. After speaking and emailing multiple vendors on-line about their crystal key fobs for sale NONE of them have the codes associated with their keys...which effectively renders them as expensive and useless paperweights. You have to ask them the direct question or most of these vendors will happily sell you a useless key fob for $900

You can always transfer the inner of a valet key inside a crystal key, if you find a crystal key with no code and cheap

That is a fact and a good alternative. However, I only have one key and I am nervous

I also only had 1 key when I purchased the car back in 2016, first I got a new valet key and the metal key that was missing, then bought a used (no code) crystal key for a good price and move the original valet key into the crystal key. You need 2 working key to program the 3rd key to start the car, which need to be done before starting to swap the inner.

We tried to get a group buy via AMOC and our local dealership, but it went nowhere. Aston corporate would discount on the keys and we'd pay the dealership the programming costs. I believe Aston corporate dropped the ball. I am still hopeful this could be resurrected.

Perhaps your local dealership would entertain the similar?

Hello. I ended up purchasing the OEM key on Scuderia although it is on backorder. The pricing is better than the dealership (as usual). I just have to wait until it arrives and take it to my dealership for programming.
