B8 S4: 3.0TT 330hp

We have confirmed with inside sources that the B8 S4 will debut with a brand new 3.0-liter TFSI bi-turbo producing 330-hp. With this powerplant Audi can nearly match the B7's 340-hp output while providing even better performance figures. Manufacturer published (conservative) 0-60mph drops from 5.4 seconds to very low 5's, while the accompanying combined fuel economy rises from 17 mpg to over 20 mpg.

Source is: http://audiworld.com/news/07/b8-s4-exclusive-preview/

The potential of this car is great (so is almost any turbo car), but I'll miss the rumble of the v8. I am not excited at all about this. Slighty used RS4 FTW!

Only 330hp for an S car in 2008? It should be at least 360-80, not less. I hope they will bump it up. Who needs a car that is slower than stock 335?!

Why would they want to make the upcoming B8 S4 inferior to the current B7 S4 and the new S5 (in terms of hp and no. of cylinders)? Why can't they just stick the S5 engine into the new S4? v8 is so much better imo.

Uhh twin turbo 6 is a million times better than the POS V8 the B6/B7 S got. The S5 motor is the same as the S4 motor just a few more hp, nothing substantial. TT 3.0 is the best move they could have done for that car, 335 competition here we come!

Agreed, its clear the RS4 is and the RS5 will be are the Flagship models fr the A4/5 line. The S4 is aimed right not only at the BMW 335 but also Infiniti G37 and Lexus IS350,(AKA the TUNER KIDS).All three cars are turbocharged and have close to 3ltr engines. Am guessing Audi what want the B8 S4 to have the tunability that the B4 S4 had. Makes sense to me.

As a former StageIII B5 S4 owner, and a current V8 S4 owner, I am ecstatic to hear this. I've already emailed my salesperson to call me for a deposit. The V8 is great but with the 335, C63, new EVO, new STi, etc - the V8 simple does not offer the tuning potential to stay with the crowd. I loved my B5 and even by today's standards it was an extremely quick car, whereas my B7 is more beauty than muscle. No to mention, with all the chassis/interior/technology refinements with the B8 this car is going to be red hot. I can't wait.

Why would the car be slower? Both are 4 door entry level luxury cars and both weight in around 3500lb while the S4 has 30hp advantage and 4 wheel traction. I think it will spank the 335i from the get go and after tuning simply Audi/VW/Porsche is much easier to get hp from.

I still dont get how people can look at the back 3/4 of the A4/5 and NOT see 3 series coupe.

that said, a TT engine does open a bar door for tuning potential. I thought there would at least doa 3.4 or .5 though. get it to the normal 360+hp.

ah well, Im sure a I/E/Chip will bring that thing to almost 350 whp.

Actually 355hp or 360hp (even 380hp ,okay 380hp alittle much, but why not) is what they should have given it,especially considering the fact that the previous V8 S4 had 340bhp and the new Audi S5 (Aka A4/S4 Coupe) has 354hp,why the downgrade in power for the 4door version.

For someone who's looking to mod a car, it's a great deal. For ALL the others (not including me), it's bad news. Stock vs stock, the 335 coupe will be faster unless Audi is highly underrating the hp/torque figures.

Lets compare apples to apples. S4 sedan vs. 335i sedan, I'll put money on the S4.

Exactly. win win situation for Audi.

Although I sure enjoy the sound of a any Audi RS/S series V8, I think the potential for greater aftermarket activity is held in any TT application.

it still looks like a 335 coupe.

I think it is great that they are going back to TT on the S4. I might have to look into a new S4 now
