Have a 996

Selling the RX8, which probably out handles any Audi. Yes, not great on gas, about 18-20mpg, but it's also pumping 183HP/L N/A. Redlines @ 9K RPMs. Always have been big on rotaries as I've owned several RX7s over the years. Torque is for rednecks.

Sorry I just like the authentic feel of a sports car, not some fabricated sedan to emulate speed. I've seen numerous videos/articles of the 997 C4S beating the R8 in just about every performance measurement. Face it, Audi's are kind of slacking. Besides, what do gay guys drive? VW Golfs or Audi A4s

Thanks but 4K lb cars aren't that appealing to me.

If a 4K lb car doesn't interest you, then don't buy it. (assuming you can even afford it) I am bewildered at how you criticize the looks of a R8, yet drive just about the ugliest piece of machinery on the road today. The RX-8 is quite an eyesore and is appropriate as a first car for a 16 year old.

As far as having a 996 now, whoopie dooo. Aesthetically, it is the least desirable 911 and is now valued less than a 993. As far as a 997 C4S beating up on the R8, that's a joke. Every magazine article that I've read prefers the R8 by a long shot.

You have a problem with gay guys?

Wow, Tough Love in this thread! I agree that the 996 is the least desirable 911, I also agree with Mr Swifty that the R8 is not the most attractive car, I want to like it, been an Audi fan for years, but I just can't do it. Performance wise, awesome. I guess it is like an ugly chick who is good in bed, do you brag to your friends about it?

I think that the R8 definitely looks better in person. Initially, I didn't like it that much, either. However, after seeing it in person and driving it around the track, I decided that I had to get one.

The looks of the car are certainly a matter of taste, but there is no denyng the drivability. The car is simply awesome to drive. It is very well balanced and I find it easier to drive fast than a 360.

firstly
the whole thing about the engine having the fastest traveling pistons is NOT true

i was a certified audi brand specialist, and i knew this car from the back to front

now

the engine itself, is EXTREMELY over engineered... its an all new 4.2 liter engine..
the brakes are taken from the lamborghini gallardo.
the seats are amazing, and the car does NOT feel like it weighs 4000 lbs

however
in no way on God;s green earth does an RS4 come remotely close to a 996tt on the ring...

other than that, the car is probably the most advanced 4 door sports car on the market

i would personally never ever buy one, i would much rather have an e60 m5 because it is more FUN to drive, and it faster

to the original poster, please dont take this the wrong way, but youre a complete , complete, complete ******bag

you drive a piece of crap
ive driven an rx8.. thats the kind of car that lesbians drive
my audi a4 1.8 turbo was faster..
my 24v cordless drill makes more torque than your mazda, im not even being sarcastic right now... the drill that moves the screws to build your car at the toys r us factory requires more torque than your "engine" can produce
the kind of people who drive Rx8's usually work at mcdonalds as "french fry technicians"
if you ever get to the point in your life where you make more than $8/ hour, i highly suggest you go to your nearest audi dealership (please wear shoes and a shirt), and ask for a test drive in the RS4

Wow, like I said tough love in this thread!

I agree, I too would not drive a RS4, the back seats are useless, I bought the 997 instead, I use the Allroad for hauling kids and snowy days.

The RS4/R8 4.2FSI does indeed have the highest mean piston speed of any production road going engine - 5,059.055 ft/min. The brakes are a hybrid of the RS6/Gallardo/Murcielago.

I can't afford a R8 or a RS4 for that matter. Doesn't mean I can't criticize the car. I've sat in both, @ Sebring I got into the R8 with a Gatorade and a hot dog, probably made all you Audi lovers mad. Seems like they make a good engine but once again I'll go back to the fact they have no legit chasis (outside of the R8, which is lambo's doing). They have always made a good track car (LP1).

I don't see how an Audi owner can bash a RX-8. I understand many don't like the look, that's fine. Audi could never produce a vehicle comparable to the RX8, the RX8 beats the Audi TT (which is considerably more expensive) in every article I've read. The RX8 is tearing up the GT class of the Grand Am Series. They just won the Rolex 24hrs @ Daytona. I understand that many might be intimidated about rotary technology. For no other car company has been able to refine the engine as Mazda has.

Bottom line is you buy an Audi as a nice sedan. They are complete trash after 2 years when they start falling apart from every direction. They loose about half their value in 2 years. I don't care if the worst Audi ran 12s in the 1/4mi. It's not all about a straight line. Audi reminds me of a refined Pontiac. All big and heavy.

Audi sucks face it, I'm sure for some of you it was a good buy, you enjoy a nice interior, and a quick car. But for me I enjoy tearing down back roads where the boat of an Audi would end up wrapped around a tree. I can't afford a 997, so I went with a 996.

Youtube Search Audi R8 vs 911

I think the show "5th Gear" has a pretty good test. Besides the 911 C4S, although very nice is no where near the flagship and supercar status of Porsche. A Turbo, GT3, GT3RS, and obviously a GT2 would make the Audi R8 look like a civic.

For the Audi 4 series, I don't care, go battle my mom on the way to the grocery store. I'll be honest, I don't think any 4 series Audi could hang with my RX8 on a winding road. No doubt it's faster in straight line, but I don't care about that crap. I'm not a Mustang owner.

Correct me if I'm wrong but this is due to the 8.25K RPM readline and the long stroke? Cars such as the 00-03 S2000, the Porsche GT3, Ferrari 360, have higher redlines but have shorter strokes which keep the pistons speeds down. Audi builds the American style of a long stroke, which typically gives you a lot more torque. I'm impressed with the design. Most long stroked engines redline below 7K rpms. The Audi R8 should be in the $70-80K range to stay competitive. I'm sure it's a blast to drive and all but if I ever dump that much on a car it won't be an Audi.

You really are an idiot. Please note that the cost of an R8 is considerably less than A Turbo, GT3, and so on.

You sat in the car, woohoo. I have sat in a bunch of cars, tons. The most uncomfortable was an F40 so I should probably start bashing the car. Wait, then I went around a track in it, and I can only sing its praises.

Go drive an Audi, any of them and come back with an opinion.

As far as supercars, the R8 is not marketed as a super car, it's a well performing car that can be driven on the street and a track comfortably. And for the money I would say they did a great job.

And as far as racing, take your RX-8 and shove it. Compare Mazda's history to that of Audi. I will say that the Miata is the one of the most fun cars around a track, but not an RX-8.

Nuff said. Audi doesn't give a rat's axx what you think about their cars; you can't afford one. They market to people that actually have taste and money. For that matter, we don't really care what you think about Audis either. We'd just prefer that you shut your blowhole and go troll on the Mazda forums. I'm sure that they would love to hear you extol the virtues of the RX POS over there.

Oh, and if you ever find a date, (either guy or gal), ask them if they'd rather ride in an RX-8 or an R8.

I've driven a S4 before.

Many people can't afford a R8.

I'm not a huge fan of Mazda or anything. I just have always loved the design and genius of a rotary engine. Audi @ Sebring breaks down...
Racing Heritage? Yeah the RX7/Miata never won any classes. haahaha
The RX8 is the best of ITS CLASS, I know it can't compare to cars which run 3-4x the price. However, I will say that it can handle just as well as about any car in that $60-70K range. You're trying to compare apples and oranges on the street.

Oh remember the Mazda 787B? The one that won 24hrs @ Le Mans powered by a 4 rotor which had to be banned from the circuit because it had such a huge competitive advantage?

Ok, if you drive a Porsche or Ferrari, not only do you have sense but you might be able to argue racing heritage. Audi has dominated the LP1 class of the ALMS for the last couple of years. Mainly because they aren't running against much competition right now.

"I can't afford a R8"

Just give it 2 years they will be going for $60K hahah

Wow you are a complete loser. Audi had problems this year, but what about the past 7 years at Sebring? What about Lemans? Give me a break dude and go troll somewhere else. You are clearly here to start **** and know nothing about cars.
