Best for Daily Driver
I am in Northern NJ. Do you have an 08 M3?
I am trying to find a manual 335i since the dealer only had the car in auto to test drive. Audi tells me a 3 month wait for an 09 S5.
We'll see if I can find one of them to test drive too.

No offense to any B6/B7 S4 owners out there, but that car doesn't really fit a couple of your requirements, it's not fast and the aftermarket parts don't really make it fast. If I were in your situation I'd go with the 335i or wait for the S5. Like was said, the 335i has a pretty decent aftermarket for a car that's been out not too long, and you can get 80hp easily and cheaply. Looks good as well. I personally wouldn't be able to justify the extra $400+ dollars/mo for the M3, but I'm a turbo junkie

S5 is no quicker than a B6 or B7 S4.
Statement or question? According to Audi's website the S5 has 14 more hp, 23 mor ft/lbs of torque, and is rated 4.9 sec 0-60 compared to the S4's 5.3. Ironically it weighs 22 more lbs
As far as the mod-ability of the S5, it's the exact same, no real bang for the buck mods. I just like the stying of the S5 and quattro in the Audi so much better than the bimmer, but it will prob get worse gas mileage and be slower than a modded 335i.

Statement and question I guess... numbers on paper are a little different in my opinion. I say this because I don't see the two cars with the output and weights and one beating the other to 60 almost a 1/2 second quicker. Don't get me wrong, I love all 3 being tossed into the comparison but after you mention the times, one would feel the difference in the SOP with the 60 times but between both at weights and numbers, one wouldn't be able to tell, especially when the crank numbers are translated to the wheels. Looks as if the drivetrain loss (efficiency) has drastically improved in the S5 by the looks of 0-60 times.

True, but one of the OP's factors is modability
I would definitely settle for an S5 if you want an Audi, any decent color is OK don't be so picky... now if you want a bimmer the M3 is through the roof in pricing so settling for 335i is not a bad choice at all, that thing flies for the $$$ and you can easily get another 80hp without much compromise... imagine that...
