looking for suggestions on an s4
looking for suggestions on an s4
hey everyone.. it's my first post so i'll do a short intro
name is brew, i live in the albany area and i love cars. currently i'm driving an ion redline (i know i know but it makes close to 300 whp and runs high 12's so it gets on just fine)
anyway i'm looking to be getting an s4 by the end of summer and i'm trying to figure out what i should be looking for in engine/parts/problems
i know the 00-02 are the 2.7 bi-turbo and the 03-05 are the 4.2l v8's
my question is i'm trying to decide if the v8 is the way to go or the bi-turbo..
-does one have more problems then the other?
-does one make more power then the other easier?
-does one need internal work to make more power?
-do the transmissions differ between models?. if so which one is better?
my budget is around 25k to spend on the car so i'm just looking for input. also i want an stick shift.. none of the auto crap.
thanks guys

www.audizine.com all your questions will be answered.
No turbo will be more reliable than turbo
Turbo models can make instane power
If you are looking for an high 12's, the 4.2 V8 will give it with mods. The S4's are heavy and if you expect 20mpg then forget it.
I have driven an '05 tip, but I don't own one. I was looking at one for the wife. She wasn't impressed, but I was. Seemed like it would be a fun car.

I have a 01 S4 with rs4 turbos that puts out 500 ft.lb of tq... and runs high 11s... if you want to mod its the way to go...but its def not as reliable as the B6 v8s... you can buy a nice b5 stage 3 for 20K..
thanks.. i've been looking into it and i'm most likely going to go with a b6. looking for around 30k-50k miles
i've gone the way of heavy mods and i just don't want to do it with the next car. the v8's seem to be a great dd and with an exhaust the cars sound amazing
i was looking at the rs4 turbo upgrade kit and it's a very impressive kit but i just don't want to worried about turbo's breaking

Look at the 2005.5+ if you want a slightly more aggressive look and to get rid of the oversized rear taillights. Some people will only go for the B6s and others only like the B7's. Check 'em out.
