TT-RS, rare, unique everything: style, engine, looks. 4wd=drive all day everyday.
Cons of Cayman? Give me a Cayman S and $10K and I'll make it better than an R with aftermarket parts...

What's the purpose of the car? Any track time planned? What do you drive now?

TTRS more tunable and far more exclusive than a Cayman R.

Cayman R - now dated.. despite going on a diet.

Even if your delta was 10k on both cars the TTRS would be considerably faster in the end with the mods.

Out of the box the TTRS looks better and is built better.

I say go with the Cayman. I'm in the same boat. I have been considering switching out my DD (2010 S4) for something a little more track useful. My other car is an Aston Martin Vantage, great on the track (surprises people for sure), but too costly for track duty.

I wanted to love the TTRS, as I have had two 3.2 TT's before. I took two out for a drive and both left me underwhelmed. I'm surevtheybhavevthe pace, but they were numb, almost like someone had put a condom on a great car. I had a Boxter S for a while his summer and it was such a visceral car. So light, such great steering feel. The Audi feels numb and artificial in comparison.

The TTRS was quick, and I'm sure it's a blast, but for me it's not pure enough. No emotion, and it understeers. I'm intrigued by it, but will instead buy the Porsche. It's more involved.

What do you want, outright pace, or an involved, tactile machine?

I went with the TTRS because I already have the spyder and wanted to try it out. The Cayman r is probably the best handling car for it's price and can't be touched in the driver feel department. But as a daily driver or only car the TTRS is much better with more useable torque and useable trunk.

It depends if you want a sporty all wheel drive coupe or a mid-engine sports car. Apples and oranges.

Cayman R

I just put a long winded thread on the Boxster/Cayman board. I was considering a Cayman R, but the $20,000 price difference convinced me to order a TT RS. My Porsche dealer is very substantial, and they have yet to sell a Cayman R. Dealers can't give these things away! There are 97 for sale on Autotrader right now. Why aren't they selling?

$20,000 price difference? I test drove one when they first hit..........it was $65K equipped along the lines of the R I have ordered. That R is costing me $72K list and $69K my price. I have driven both.........for me as a daily driver, I much prefer the R. I recounted my impression of the TTRS after an extensive test drive on the Cayman R thread elsewhere on this site. In fact, I much prefer my 08 CS over the TTRS. I love Audis, I have had 5 (1998 A4, 2000 S4, 2006 A3, 2007 A3, 2008 TT) and currently have a 2011 A3 so it is not a Porsche vs. Audi bias. At Petit this year, I had a chance to talk with an Audi engineer in the Audi tent about the TTRS and told him why I was disappointed with it........he was surprised and then I told him my reference was a CS.........at which point he said, Oh, of course.........
