advice on R8 purchase
hey guys
i visit family in California at least once a year. i am contemplating purchasing a low mileage 2008/9 R8 r-tronic (white preferable) with a budget of + - 90k
i saw a lot online... however very few had an Audi Extended warranty. A 2008 R8 with 9k miles asking $99,895....went down to $96,000. it wasnt the color i wanted! but im not that picky. i saw another all the way in Ohio.. asking price $89,999, 13,000miles and in white.. but no warranty.
i just need some advice on whether there is something i need to watch out for before i take the plunge?
1. CPO. is this something not to ignore?
2. should i only look for ones with extended warranty?
3. are the V8's relatively troublefree?
4. maybe someone in the forum knows of ay good R8 deals out there?
looking forward to a response.

Most R8 are very reliable. But just like everything else parts will eventually wear out. Unlike Porsche, there are not many independent shops out there familiar with this car. Therefore you would have to rely on the Audi dealer. The parts on the R8 are also very expensive. For example, I just had the amplifier replaced under warranty that would have cost me over $1200. There are many used ones sitting at the dealer to choose right now. I would search and go with those before settling with one without warranty.

thanks vincent.
i did almost conclude on the white R8 in cincinnati with 12,500miles on it. We agreed on price. upon asking for vehicle history, i was only given 2 service reports up to 4000miles. When i asked for the full report up to current mileage i was sent a report (that was issued same day) from an Audi dealer that vehicle was in excellent condition.
i find that very awkward that the dealer is unable to produce full history of the car...
anyway.. i am still on the lookout.

Well I think its a best deal with this car $96,000. Don't buy a car without warranty because may be it costs you more then this price. So go with this. But I have to tell you that the parts of this car is also expensive. So keep in mind that thing before taking any decision. Good Luck.

C4sss...
I recently bought a 2008 R8 after shopping and research for over a year.
As others said the R8 is a very reliable car. Check you r8talk.com.
As to warranty I would get an Audi extended warranty. Shop around as some dealers sell full mark and others just cover their adminstration costs. Huge swing.
Also on the car in Ohio, I would be very suspect of a white 08 13k miles under 90k
Feel free to write me at jjgrice55@gmail.com if you have specific questions...glad to help!

Congrats on your new R8. I've owned two of them; an 09 V8 coupe and an '11 V10 Spyder. Both wonderful cars and no problems at all. Just std service and a few minor recall updates.
A great combination of handling, speed, power and overall tremendous ride.
I bought the extended Audi Care contract on both and if get it on a used car, all the better.
Enjoy.
