The Plus is a 2014 model with 550HP AWD, light weight and DSG transmission.

Which to me would make one want to ask, what is the purpose of the Gallardo any longer?
It retails $90,000 more, it doesn't have DSG, and the extra 20hp over the R8 is deep in region where you will never use it on the road and maybe dip into it 10% of the time.

I'd rather keep the $90,000 in my pocket and or use it for one of UD's TT kits.

Preference.

I'll also believe there are more characteristics about cars than just drivetrain and location.

They are both same power, AWD, mid-engine coupes. But I feel that's where it stops. Different ride, different interior, different look, etc...

I agree, they are the same car underneath and R8 now has the advantage of dual-clutch transmission. Also Audi gives you free maintenance and the warranty is longer, and to insure the car is a lot less. Lambo does look sexier though, but not by a lot (especially if we're comparing to the new facelifted R8).
