Getting ready to sell my 04 VW R32. Thought I would "ask the Audi experts" what car would best suit my needs: Wish list- @ $40k new or used, all-wheel drive, 6-speed, 4 doors, fun to drive, and decent gas mileage. Thanks ahead of time.

 

go for the A4 and chip it with an exhaust!!! won't be as fast as your R32, but still an awesome car!

What kind of H.P. gain does the chip and exhaust give, and how much $$$ ?

You might be able to get an nice 04-05 S4 near the $40k but your not going to get decent mileage on a V8

 

depends on the chip!!! chips are around $500. GIAC has a chip that gives 30-39 HP and 50-60 torque.

I've also seen as much as 15 HP gains from an aftermarket exhaust (all depends on the exhaust)... but prices can be anywhere from $600-3,000

 

2004-2005 S4's in great condition with good miles are readily available in the mid 30K range. These cars values have tanked.

There are a lot of options for the chip, most are getting an additional 40HP and 60TQ. The software alone really wakes the car up.

An A4 2.0T w/ S-line package would be a nice option, and with software (and exhaust if you want) would be in the same performance league as your R32.

The S4 will be a step up in performance, but it's maintanence and running costs (servicing, gas, etc.) are higher. Plus, you'd have to buy used.

ummm, An S4 is no where near $40K, Mine was almost $60K.

Also, by no stretch of the imagination does the S4 get good gas milage. I am happy to see low teens in the city and sometimes I get very low 20's on the highway. At 80 MPH you are cruising at a little over 3,000 RPM's

 

I think you should get a b5 s4 2.7t, get it chiped, exhaust you get around 310-315hp at the crank

 

No brainer.....B6 S4. You can find some really nice one's from the mid 30's.
