Audi to discontinue the 2.0-liter turbo engine?
Trying to find information for a discussion in another thread. The OP swears he's got 'connections' that tell him that Audi is dropping the 2.0-liter turbo engine for 2008 due to not meeting emissions standards. That wouldn't make sense to me since it's still a fairly brand new engine and Audi just announced another model to carry it.
Anyone with information on this? Bueller?

Another forum. A member there, who's intelligence is in deep question, says that his friend is in deep with Audi and has information that Audi will be discontinuing the 2.0T engine for 2008. I figured that since a few members here actually work for Audi, you included, that some concrete information could be found.
Somehow, he also takes a bit of carbon buildup in the exhaust pipes as a sign that the engine doesn't meet emissions standards.

Verone works at an Audi dealership as far as I know, and he's smart of enough to not make some bullsh!t blanket statement about Audi dropping, arguably, their most popular engine option. If this is the case, then VW's going to be in some serious **** too, because just about all their passenger cars are available with the 2.0T as well.
To sum it up, I'm not buying it, aka this guy on the other forum is full of it.

See, being from a family that has owned several VW cars, I'm pretty familiar with the engine options. I know where the 2.0 engine stands, kinda like the K-series for Honda and the LSX blocks for the Corvettes, etc. For Audi to spend time and money developing a replacement engine for one of their most respected engines, I don't buy it either but was looking for confirmationl.

No disrespect to any Audi employees here, but most times you are the last to know. When I ordered my RS6 4 years ago I knew more about the car, options, build time etc than the service manager, salesman, shop foreman etc.
Things get leaked on to the net, some true some not so true. The 2.0L going away though is kinda hard to imagine.

FSI is way more efficient than traditional injection, so emissions would be the last reason it goes away. I could see them canning it because it costs too much and they want more profits well before I could see the emissions thing...
