Good price for an 04 S4?
Good price for an 04 S4?
been searching around, although a purchase wont be made anytime soon, what is ballpark figure for an 04 S4,
not that it matters, but looking for an 04, Red w/black recaro int and no ridiculous high miles..
Ive searched around but seen several different prices, anyone help me out with a ballpark of what I should be looking for or what would be too much?
many thanks...

04's were basically Problem free, we only had 3 of them, Audi ended up buying back the 3rd defective car.
Car #1 (the only car of the 3 to make it to delivery) dropped a valve at 300 miles and blew the motor.
Car #2 arrived from the factory with a leaking read differential (we refused delivery because to replace the gasket involved dropping the entire drivetrain)
Car #3 locked itself in reverse while they were pulling it off the transport truck...yea that's right, it wouldn't shift out of reverse (Tip)
After the dealer tried to hard pressure sell us an RS6 (only about $40k more money) and Carl Ritz (former GM at the Audi Exchange in Highland Park, IL) literally started screaming at my father and I about how this wasn't his problem, and how we need to figure it out with Audi ourselves and stop "wasting his time" (this was after waiting over 1.5 months to be compensated, we just stopped in to calmly ask about the status).
I politely apologized to him for wasting his time by trying to buy a $50,000 luxury automobile from them, and assured him that it wouldn't happen again. I then informed him that if he didn't lower his voice immediately I would post this story online at every available opportunity.
He is no longer at the dealership, and from what I hear they have really turned things around. He does however own North Shore VW/Buick...so stay away from them
Sorry to have thread-jacked...but don't buy an 04, 05 or newer for the money.

I had a late 04 and it was perfect. Just sold it w/ 27K miles for 33K...and that was a fast sale because I was getting my Cayman S and it needed to go. I had some bites at 37!

the reason I said B6 instead of B7 is the B6 id be struggling to get, so how much more do you all think id be looking at for a B7 S4? I would definatley rather wait longer to save and get a newer one to avoid any problems, because they tend to happen to me lmao..
thanks for all the responses though!

also considered looking just got a B7 2.0 or V6 S-Line... thoughts?
I've never driven the A4's, but I did drive an A3 V6 S-line and 2.0t back to back. I would say you 100% need to drive both. I drove the 2.0T (again A3) and thought it was garbage, I liked our '99 Jetta V6 5-Speed better. Someone convinced me to drive the V6 S-line which I loved until they offered me a discount of a whole $250
. A lot of people like the modability that comes with a turbo car, but it's a "different strokes for different folks" type of deal.
Not that you asked, but you might want to consider a different option. "Struggling" to buy a luxury vehicle is never a good idea. Cars (with few exceptions) are depreciating assets and consequently in my opinion you might be better off saving some money to invest / what have you to head in an upwards direction rather than downwards. The S4 is a great car, but it isn't worth making life difficult. You could pick up an R32 and have just as much fun with a little less space, and save yourself 10 grand or so (going from memory)

yeah there wouldnt be a struggle if I decided I could get one, being that IF i got to where I could afford it then I could.. I wouldnt break myself over it, I love cars, but not worth being broke, lots of other things in life to pay for..
more of a, I need a more "grown up" reliable and "sensible(4 door)" sometime in the future so ive really come to like these and would LIKE to make it my next buy (when, I dunno) but right now more of a "getting my ducks in a row" type thing to see what I want and how much it would be, etc, etc, etc.. then if I can afford it sometime, then I will know...

Answers to questions:
An '05.5 S4 with light options (i.e. no nav, 6-speed) should be had in the low $30K range at this point. Figure you'll spend about $4-5K more for a B7 - WELL WORTH IT.
The A4 2.0T S-line is a great car. I have an A3 2.0T S-line w/DSG (which is the important thing). I drove another A3 w/same specs, but in 6-speed and it was crap. I'm not a big fan of the 3.2 engine - there's something about that torquey little turbo motor that I love.
Keep in mind that the A4 body style will change in the next year or so.... https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...ad.php?t=84504
