The biggest thing about this car that makes it worth so much is that it has the S54 engine. The early M Coupes (99-00) had the S52 which only had 240hp, the later models (01-02) had the S54 with 320hp. There were a 2,180 total S52 Coupes made for the US market but only 690 S54 cars. So, this is a fairly rare car. If I were in Cali I would probably buy it, but I've already made an offer on an S52 Coupe in Hawaii where I live.

I also was the fortunate owner of an S54 MCoupe. Throw the book out the window with these cars- less than 700 made it to the US in total, so pricing is based on condition as opposed to any book value. . I sold my 2001 with 76k miles to the first bidder with a few back ups at what I can see now as a below market price to a gent who flipped it In a few months for more. This car was market correct.
