WTB: folding track seats
WTB: folding track seats
Looking for a pair of folding seats to use on the track. (DE only, low groups...not for real "racing"...)
Black or Navy, leather or alcantara best. Best if you have it would be Porsche Natural Brown....
If ratty, please adjust the price down (actually would prefer cheap, cheap, cheap) as long as the mechanisms all work.
Key will be the slots for harness straps that the OEM 996TT seats lack....
Sub slot would be a plus! But, I can use a team tech harness (6pt) jet pilot and not use a sub slot for DE.
996 installation bits a big plus too...
Cannot take fixed back seats at this time...the kids want to ride in the back with me.
RECARO A8's
RECARO Sports
RECARO SRD's
RECARO speeds
etc.
Sparco equivalents.
I would like the seats to be in a black or navy color, preferably vinyl or leather.
Thanks!

I think I might go for them and report back with a review.
Wish me luck. I don't plan to "race" and for me, DE is fun..the car is truly dual purpose. Any more mods and it will be something I hear about from my wife.......at least for 3-5 years...once the kids don't fit in back...FIXED seats and roll/cage!

those seats look great ... I wish porsche had done that to begin with ... gives you more options. At least they did it in the new GT2 seats but they are like 8k!

can't see the ebay links (no longer work). but please please be very careful with "racing, light weight" reclinable seats. Allow me to share a very sad track story.
On the track a driver lost control of his car. As is typical with our heavy rears, it is the rear that hit the wall first. Driver had "cheap" reclinable seats. When the car hit (back end first), the pin on the seat broke. The driver instantly reclined and was thrusted rearward into his roll infrastructure. Despite wearing a helmet, he died.
There are a couple take aways from this very sad story:
1. DO NOT GET SEATS YOU DO NOT TRUST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! Stick wih factory seats or names you really trust (i.e. i like recaro).
2. DO NOT MIX SAFETY EQUIPMENT INAPPROPRIATELY. Safety in cars works a system and mixing seats, racing harness, cages... with street stuff is just a real bad idea.
I'm sure there are more lessons, but those are the ones i care to share.

I completely agree and plan to just stay OEM factory UNTIL my kids don't fit in back, then I plan to get fixed back gt3 seats.
Thanks.

but every accident and every scenario can or could have a different out come if we changed something.
but who's to say he would have lived had he crashed with a factory seat.
with that said look at all the factory porsche bars out there that are not FIA approved. or why does race harnesses have to get replaced by date even if they were never used when a stock seat belt from a 1969 Speedster is ok for use.
you get what I am saying.
i am a firm believer that once your card is pulled it's pulled. don't matter what you do or did you are just fooling yourself.
JB, I just bought some 997 GT3 sport seats and put them in my car. Much better support than stock seats. Deeper bolsters than 996 sport seats and the Alcantara centers have more friction than plain leather. Plus they are a direct fit and high quality. I paid $1600 for the set which included $400 shipping. Something to consider. GT3 guys often sell these stock seats when they change to race buckets.
Have to agree with englishbull, when your time comes, that's it. I worked with this old Chinese guy once and he told me , Old Chinese proverb " Live long, die fast." I'd rather bite it quick at the track having fun, than like my brother who took 2 ugly years to die from lung cancer. God rest his soul. He was a great brother.

not to down play what you are trying to say.

Comparing a race harness seat belt to a street belt draw as much similarity as an apple and an orange, being they are both fruit. Racing harnesses are designed to hold you in place and not stretch at all. The racing safety system is designed that way so that you don't hit the cage infrastructure and if you have a HANS device to keep your head and neck in proper position.
Stock seat belts actually stretch signifcantly to absorb significant energy and not transfer it to your body. You don't have to worry about hitting a cage and you have the airbags to keep you away from the glass or sides/front. So while they are both seat belts their design goals are completely different for safety. That's why you need think of safety as a system and not as components. Seats, belts, cages, hans devices, harnesses... all work together.
Hope that helps...

Agree fully.
I have come to the conclusion after MUCH reading here and on rennlist, and elsewhere including talking to people at speed shops, that I am safer in a stock car until I have an absolute full cage/hans/5/6pt/fire suppression/rigid back/back braced car.
I may get rigid back seats....but I plan to avoid harnesses until I have the full system. Track for me is likely to stay low/intermediate for 1-5 more years at least. The economy is making the conversion of a good DD car to a track car silly....at least for me, to be honest. I like driving the TT too much to totally muck it up. If I had oodles of $$$, no issues.

Since that latter scenario is not happening while I put kids in the car, I am staying stock or at best folding seats....of high quality. Landjet, I am with you.
Jeff
