Question anyone painted their own bcgt calipers?

Has anyone painted their own calipers?

The bodyshop wants to do it for $200 per caliper and so I am considering doing it myself since no one will ever really take a good look at it. some of the kits and instructions on the web look ok to do.

the plain grey just doesnt do it for me and the cost of buying the bremos kit is too expensive since the rotors dont need replacing.

what do you guy think?

$200 per caliper? holy cow.... if you've got the time, just do it yourself. i've seen in done a hundred times (90% of my friends around here are strictly DIY guys).

$200 total is what a shop *should* be charging for painting calipers. sounds like the shop that quoted you is trying to pry open that big Bentley wallet of yours.

yea.. 200 for ALL should be about right. Just go to a powdercoating shop and they will hook you up.

$200 for all? damn, i will definitely search out a powder coating shop.

do you think i would have to remove the calipers for them? seems like a delicate job to remove the caliper since i could damage the brakeline.

hmmm, actually just found it is isnt that simple. you need to remove and prepare the caliper to give to the powdercoat shop. then you need to figure out how to rebuild the caliper.

eh seems kind of complex lol.

anyone done this to their gt before?

the price should include all the labor. powder coating will probably be more expensive than painting because you have to do much more to the caliper, including "baking" them. with paint, it's a pretty straightforward affair (thus the $200 total price).

as for the labor itself, the brake line shouldn't be an issue at all. they'll be either a very heavy-duty rubber or a braided stainless line (i'm not sure which is used on your car), and either one can take a beating just fine. painting the calipers should not require them to be removed. i would imagine that powder coating does require them to be pulled from the car, though, which would also include draining/refilling the brake fluid.
