Preowned 2012 W12 Mulliner or New 2013 V8?

As mentioned in my previous post I am looking at picking up a 2012 Mulliner CGT. My dealer also has a new 2013 V8. The price difference between the two is $16k. I like the spec of the Mulliner better but was wondering if going with the V8 with the 8 speed auto and full warranty would be a better choice. The preowned was sold and serviced by my dealer.

Is this your first bentley, if yes, get the w12 for the authentic experience. Is the 2012 cheaper by 13k as well? $13k should be more than enough to offset the shorten warranty of the 2012 unless you have the some crazy engine explosion.

Like you said, Mulliner is much nicer than the vanilla edition.

Actually, the '12 is 16K cheaper - plus it's extreme silver which looks incredible in person.

After test driving both I just bought a new V8. I thought that the performance difference was hardly noticeable, but the fuel economy is and hopefully residual value will be much better. After 400 miles in a couple of weeks I'm very well pleased with the V8. I think in the longer term Bentley will concentrate on smaller engined cars, with better performance and ecenomy, probably backed up by the fact that a V8S is already announced.

I will take the W12 then! At the end of the day, go with the one that pleases your eyes.

I was going to tell you to go with the 12. No comparison. But you already made your decision.

I've owned 3 GTCs: an '08 with standard interior, a '10 Speed with Mulliner and now a '13 V8 with Mulliner. I don't feel any difference in power between the 600HP Speed and the 500HP V8, probably because of the 8-speed transmission. The sound on the V8 is even better than on the Speed. Regardless what's under the bonnet, the Mulliner interior is the only way to go, IMO. If I go for a 4th GTC, it'll surely have the Mulliner interior.

Whatever you finally choose, owning and driving a CGT is an awesome experience and one you won't regret. After 5 years of ownership the car's styling still makes me look twice and makes my heart swell with pride.

PS: Are you the George who PM'd me about Linen interior via R8Talk?

Same George, yes. My business partner thinks I'm crazy for picking up the GTC when I also have the R8. I told him they're two different cars with different purposes. He doesn't get it.

Totally different cars. I owned my R8 Spyder concurrently with my '10 GTC Speed. My wife also thought I was crazy but only because she's insecure that she'll outlive our money!

Now I don't own the R8 anymore but just got a 2014 911 Carrera S and the wife is happy that I didn't get a C7 Corvette. But I'll always have a Bentley Continental, I think.

What's the secondary hide color and what's the veneer? Does it have the veneer on the doors or the quilting? PICS! We need pics!!!

Oh, and congrats!

Very elegant! The secondary hide looks lighter than Beluga, more like Porpoise. A very nice contrast.

I'm still in VT and taking my Austin-Healey to the British Invasion at Stowe this weekend and entering her in the concours. Heading back to FL on the 30th so won't be in New England for that run, sad to say. I'm consoled by the fact that I have a brand new Carrera S and my 9-month-old GTC waiting for me back in FL!

Have fun on the run and post pics or PM me.

Cheers,

Jeff

Well, that was short lived. Paperwork was all ready to be signed saturday and my business partner decided he didn't want such a large lease through the company. I'm not happy.
