Copying CD's to HDD in 2013 CGT

I have been trying to rip a CD onto the car's HDD with no success. The OM states that a "copy icon" should appear next to the source file in the selection menu. For the life of me I cannot see a record/copy icon next to any sources. Has anyone copied CD's to their HDD? If so please walk me through it. My darn 2010 F150 has an obvious red button I select on the touch screen whenever a CD is in the drive and it will rip about 10 tracks in 3 minutes but nothing so simple in the Bentley....go figure.

You have noooo idea!!!

My wife is a neat freak (compared to I) when it comes to vehicles. I, however, refuse to wash my truck as I treat it like a farm vehicle. It is becoming legendary..... for the "patina" it has developed during 3 years sans washing. My wife swears that if I leave the windows down during a rain shower and sprinkle a few seeds I'l have a weathertech mat garden in days! I have no honest retort to refute her.....perhaps snap beans this spring my darling.

I do hope that someone can assist me with the cd copying matter. My attempt at getting help from the salesman is not going well. I may have to put a thorn up the dealership GM's rectum soon. Funny thing...the salesman was Johnny on the spot with returning calls until my "check cleared" and the vehicle was put in the truck....now he seems to have gotten much busier.

Edit....Dr. D.- When I wrote "truck" I was referring to the transporter....not the F150!!!! Now THAT would elevate it to legendary status

Way off topic but i have a truck like that. it has a 4 wheeler in the back right now at the office, two loaded rifles in the back seat and cow chit all over the exterior from a deer hunt yesterday. I swear if my radio ever goes out I will just turn the garden hose to the inside for a proper wash.

We have discovered that salesmen rarely know the products they sell very well. I recall a Harley parts salesman telling my wife they did not make the part she was looking for as a single piece but was part a larger$$$$ kit. She proceeded to walk over to the parts on the wall and say " see here it is right here". OOOOHHHH the shame a woman telling a man about mechanical parts.

I'd ask for the GM or owner of the place for assistance. The lower(life) should snap to attention if they feel they might be exposed. Good luck.

Update:
I called Bentley roadside assistance last week(could not find another more appropriate number) and they could not offer technical support. She suggested speaking to the service dept. at the dealership.....sigh......Sooooo....I called the salesman back who is supposed to talk to "his technical guy" to walk him through the process then he will call me....sheesh. I will give him until tomorrow and then I will call their service dept. directly. If I find no satisfaction I will call Bentley again I guess. I probably should call Bentley of Houston but I hesitate since they did not benefit from the sale of the car. My dealer was in New Jersey near Philly.

F430....are you also not able to see any icons for copying to HDD as described in the OM? I was thinking that maybe the only source for uploading is the SD drive but it is clear in the OM, at least the way I read it, that CD's can be copied. Please post up if you find the answer...I will as well.

Update!!!.....

*Disclaimer for Mel...AKA Dr. Disaster...this post makes references to a particular Ford F150. Parental guidance is suggested.

I have the whole CD ripping thing sorted out and here is what I have learned:

First off, the drive will not copy audio files in their native digital audio specification. In other words, you cannot "rip" a commercial audio CD to the HDD. (....but I can in a 2010 F150 pick-up truck....Hmmmm)

Audio files must be in a WMA or MP3 format. I did try to load lossless WMA files and it was a no go.

I could burn the above files on a CD-R and then load them to the HDD....but kind of defeats the whole idea of easily ripping a store bought CD then tucking it away for safe keeping at home. You can do that but only with the added step of burning another CD.

I did load music in basic WMA format onto a 32GB SD card (maximum size accepted BTW) and could then copy it to the HDD. Eureka!!!!....oh...wait a second....Why copy it when I could just play it directly off the SD card where it is much easier to categorize files/music on my PC then just plug the chip into the car???.

Well...I find that the music quality is just as good playing it off the SD card as the HDD (my hearing sucks so even if there is a technical difference i would never discern it) so I will just use the SD card as my "hard drive". Also the HDD is only 16+GB so I actually have more capacity this way.

So now I find that I know how to get audio files to the HDD and now I don't desire to any longer. Happiness is in the journey and not arriving at the destination I suppose.

Robin

I wished the disclaimer had instructed me not not even try and read all that. Lord have mercy if put a cd in and it don't play(make musical sounds) it's game over for me. I can barely turn on the radio.

Don't take everything I say to literal. I may not be as pathetic as I make myself look. All in fun right?

Dr. D, it's not always about you. Ok, ok, so 99 44/100% of the time it IS about you.

My 2005 comment was for Robin in what the B handles file-wise and how to implement the 'rip' to internal memory. Car audio has come a long way and in fact now handles 24/192 and at CES a new unit handles Flac. I interviewed the head of Dirac, a company that helps with the Naim system in the B, during CES. Hopefully the next Gen B handles all the appropriate file types. I mean, why spend a few grand $ on the Naim if it only handles low quality mp3/wma compressed and outdated CD.

Well pull my pants down and throw ice water on it.

I guess i was fully pathetic on this one so thanks for the enlightenment. For real.

From my short time with Bentley I have seen they are not on the front lines of acoustic technology. You my man are the stratosphere.

Oh heck no, please. Just workin' hard to gain knowledge and share it with our readers. Just one of the gigs I sorta pretend to do between stock trading, playing, and of course chasing around my lovely wife on exotic beaches and, well, anywhere else she lets me

If you want to watch my interview with Dirac's Mathias Johnsson from a few days ago, see www.EnjoyTheMusic.com/ces_the_show_2014/videos/dirac.htm

Steven, I expected a Bentley to be current on their technology in regards to the "infotainment system". "So 2005" is spot on. Of course the salesmen stated "sure...you can rip CD's right onto the hard drive....just like you can in your Ford truck". Well you can in a Rube-Goldberg sort of way. Well, every marque has its nuances. I suppose I'll have to suffer this one. Oh, the sacrifices one must make to drive a Bentley. Life is rough for sure.

BTW....I like the color scheme on your F2000. A racing buddy of mine had a Continental (formula, not Bentley) with a near identical layout. It reminds me of the Jordan F1 cars of the later years. I would like to get back into club racing again in next year or so. I have been getting the itch for a DP02 lites 1 car. When I bowed out I was running a Pro Formula Mazda but I think I'll get something with the wheels enclosed based on the same car. Besides the safety issue I think prototype cars look cool.

Well, as always there are work-arounds. I have all three Bentley 'solutions' for 'hacking in' to their system. Both Dice units and the official Bentley iApple USB adapter. Between all of them the MediaBridge sounds the best to me as they upgraded the digital and analog stages over the early Dice unit. Then you can use the analog input with an Astell&Kerm AK120 (or their just-released AK240) to play 192kHz/24-bit, DSD, wav, Flac, mp3, wma, etc.

As for racing, like you I have stepped back a bit. For me it is more about the time and effort, as take it so seriously there was both physical and mental conditioning, etc that needed to be done. Especially at my (advanced) age compared to these young guns coming up in the league! In fact I would not eat lunch before qual/race as the body's effort to digest the food took away from other human bodily 'resources' and could feel it. Frankly, my first wife probably left me partially due to my efforts/time consumed by racing and wanting to earn the Driver's Championship in SCCA.

Hope you get a nice DP02 lites 1 car, as you know racing is such an amazing thrill that one can never achieve on public roadways. If you ever make it to LRP, WGI, NHMS, etc let me know as would gladly be a crew hand. For me it was not JUST the driving, it was the ability to learn about fluid dynamics and chassis/tire/etc and how changes effect lap times in various sectors. Yes, I can be a bit geeky like that so the whole Formula 2000 experience taught me MANY life lessons. Some expected, some unexpected that have no equal. They say open wheel Formula drivers have a unique outlook in life, and considering that we drive these incredible cars at the limit is literally death-defying.... we celebrate life that much more!

So you go get that car and hope to hear about your racing efforts in 2014!
