Strut finnaly quit.

Well, I can't say that I didn't know it was coming but the front drivers side strut on my GT finally failed conveniently about a mile from the dealership. So I limped along and got a loaner car and mine should be ready by the begging of next week. Of course, they talked me out of the Arnet strut saying they have performed a few at the request of their clients and they were both unpleasant experiences for both parties. They would do it if I wanted to but they of course would recommend against it. So I am just going to go with the factory strut to the tune of around $2500. Does anyone know what the factory strut cost and does this price sound about right? The dealership told me the labor was about 3 hours or less and they would include changing out some bushing or something to that effect as the ones in there get ruined when this happens. They also said it was not necessary to do the other side now but could if I wanted. The two years I have enjoyed the car this is the only major problem so I guess I am somewhat fortunate as I have read some horror stories on the forum.

Sorry to hear of your troubles and as you know eventually these cars will need looking after. This is the first I've heard from anyone about any problems with the Arnott shocks and have seen posts over the years with people using them with success. Furthermore, the Arnot shocks come with a limited lifetime warranty. Please ask the dealership how long the warranty is with the factory shocks as am curious.

$3k and three hours seems about right from the factory pricing if they're also doing bushings. Are they just changing the bushing or installing new arm(s)? Usually they install new arms and not push and the old bushings and press in new ones in your old arms. In the future you might want to seek out a good independent service center... unless your kinda stuck as I was when living in the 'middle of nowhere'

Ok, so the dealership calls me back and says that it is the strut and it is the more expensive of the two available struts for my year/model and it is going to be $3987 + tax. I didn't think that there were two different struts for that model year. I reminded him that yesterday he mentioned that it would probably be the $2500 one but he said after checking it out that it is the $3500 one. An alignment is recommended but not required. The alignment will be an additional $240 plus tax. Does this sound right to anyone? I told them that I am going to have to discuss this with my wife and call them back to buy me some time.

Lifetime warranty like the Arnott? Did you check to see what an independent would charge?

Yes, I found an independent that would do it for $1700 with all factory parts. I just posted this hoping to find out if in fact there are 2 different struts for my model/year and if the dealer was being straight with me.

Ahh, ok. Am not sure about if there are two variants for your year yet we know some changes were made 2007 to 2008 on some models such as exhaust bits (confirmed by the dashing Dr. D). In general parts changes happen for a variety of reasons and is not just a straight model year to model year thing. Bentley also does some changes to design years later such as the front bonnet lock mechanism/system. What is the build date (month/year) of your car?

Mine was tossed last week. It has been making weird sound and car finally was too low to drive after I came back from my vacation.

Got it fixed today at my local indy.

2x Arnott rebuild front struct
4 control arms (bolt seized up and had to heat it; changed due to weaken ball joint)
Labour

Total bill $6200 Canadian ~ $4400 USD. Big bill but you gotta pay to play.

That's a proper price and yes these car $4k you at a time, the stealership would have charged 2x to 3x more.
