Tire Pressure Recommendations

Just ordered a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports (275/35/20)for my '06 Continental GT. I saw a number of threads recommending pressures ranging from the door jamb recommendations of 49 in the front to as low as 35. It seems like the higher suggestions are for higher speed driving so I don't think there is a consensus. I am looking for a low noise ride that will not wear out tires. My driving is mostly around town and with highway speeds seldom above 80 mph. I know, you're laughing and thinking "What is this guy doing driving one of our supercars." I suspect there are a lot of opinions on tire pressure and I'd appreciate any thoughts.

Also use the PSS yet 19" version. I've now settled on 42 front and 36.5 rear with ambient temp being 70f.

My handbook calls for a differential pressure of only 3-5 lbs. I split the difference at 4 pounds and rarely travel over 150 mph.

Have you checked the pressure when hot after a fun Miami drive? Then check the max pressure specs of the tire... just to be safe.

I think he has to much pressure but that is just me. The only reason to run the highest allowable pressures is speed related. If you are not driving over 186 mph there is no reason to accept the harder ride with high pressures. Yes they are front end heavy but a four or five pound difference should be adequate.

It should be printed on a sticker on your door jamb.

On my '14 it is also displayed via the "Car" button on the infotainment system with both actual and recommended pressures. Not sure if that is a change from the Gen 1 to Gen 2.

I am running Pilot Sports at 48/42. Max pressure on the DOT impressions is 50 PSI (Cold) so technically 48 is right at the limit. If you run lower don't forget to set the TPMS to learn the new pressures so you do not get 'Flat' warnings.
I run Nitrogen in all my tires on all my vehicles. So you buy a cylinder and pressure regulator system for about $200. A refill of a 40SCF tank is about $30 and that is a lot of tire fills.
I keep my ride on normal rather than COMFORT and my butt does not complain much - but then again it turned to iron butt after so much motorcycle running. LOL

At any rate watch the tire wear pattern to see if whatever pressure you use has any adverse effects. As I recall over inflated tires wear more in the center, underinflated at the edges and if the 'porridge is 'just right'' the wear will be even (barring any alignment issues.)

BTW, when you buy or top up your tires at Costco they use Nitrogen.

For normal driving (not racing) the benefits are minimal. Nitrogen molecules are bigger than normal air molecules, making it harder for them to leak out. The air we breath is already 78% nitrogen. If you regularly check and maintain your tire pressure there's really not much sense to it. I think that it's mostly a profit maker for those who offer it.

All correct and here is another link on the pro's/ con's.
https://cars.usnews.com/cars-trucks/...rogen-in-tires

I have used it in all my Corvettes, etc. the main advantage is that commercial tanks are 'dry' gas. Most folks do not have dryer/water traps on their compressors.

IMO for the Bentley the constancy of pressure is a factor. Since the recommended pressures are so close to the max cold inflation that might help.

Again as @BruceR says a lot of this is esoteric 'how many angels can dance .......' talk

I have never paid for N2 as it is a big profit center at a tire shop. I keep my tank and hi/lo setup which is long paid for.
