While I have not had the pleasure of owning one yet, I have been doing quite a bit of research on these cars ('04 - '06, and to some degree, '07 Continental GT and Flying Spur). Based on the information that I have gathered, if you want to be safe, I would be prepared for the following (price estimates assume the use of a reasonable, knowledgeable, and competent independent shop and strategic part purchases):

Vacuum hose line replacement - $4,000
Third brake light replacement - $1,500
Headliner repair - $1,500
Brake pads and Rotors - $2,500
Tires (2 sets over the course of 25k miles) - $3,000
Front end suspension refreshing using manufactured air struts - $2,500
Batteries - $500
Misc. (oil changes, brake line replacement, filters, unforeseen, etc.) - $2,500

Total, that's around $18,000.

Of course some of that may have been done by a previous owner, which will reduce the chance you'd have to complete the repair; you may also get lucky and not have to do some of the items on the list.

....Hello Fonteno...it does appear you have experience in the area of possibly working on the Bentley you propose to purchase so you are getting into this with your eyes wide open...that is a good thing....however your questions concerning prices of possible repairs has no good answer. It depends on too many variables. Primary is the condition of the car you buy.
If I was living back in my property in Southern California with all the garage space and tools, and if I wanted a multi year project working on an early GT (which I have no desire to do)
I would not pay more than $20,000 for a first project car. I would probably source it from an insurance salvage yard....check out Johnny's projects...JimB

Hi Fonteno.

It might not be the case that you would definitely have to do those jobs.
For a start, the high level brake light was a fault that came to light not too long after the GT was introduced. By now, the vast majority of affected cars will have had that fixed. From what I've seen, the fix is permanent and doesn't need repeating.

Likewise, the gearbox air hose problem. Once again a lot of cars will have had this fixed already.

The headliner. Just take a look. It will be obvious if it's sagging at the sides.

My advice would be to choose wisely and not rush into the first thing you see.

Good luck with your search.

Les.

Just for info' and not wanting to teach anyone yo suck eggs.

The TPMS (tyre pressure monitoring system) batteries usually last for 5 years. The batteries are non replaceable so new sensors have to be fitted.
Aftermarket sensors are available which are less expensive. Please be aware. There is a difference in the operating frequency between the USA and other parts of the world.

I was saying that, to inform you that the earlier years had issues with them, and wasn't making it one year. some owners turned the light off, using the computer, then put regular valve stems, some just got use to the light on the dash, and some owners corrected the issue by replacing the tpms with the revised sensors. And now they on the 5 year life cycle. Just passing info. And I don't suck eggs.

My last set of sensors, fitted by my Indie, were aftermarket items. I've had no issues with them. They were a lot cheaper too.
No point paying for a Bentley logo eh!
