Winshield replacement/scratch

I have wiper scratches on my front windscreen. Had three different repair guys look at it, all three said, "No way" to polishing out the scratches. I guess there's a plastic film? Does anyone know anything about this?

I started looking for a replacement windshield, saw some for a little over $2k, but the actual quote with taxes and shipping from Scuderia was $3,100 for just the windscreen. Do I want to try to source a used one? Has anyone had scratches buffed out?

Seems nuts to replace the whole thing for some scratches, but when they catch the light, it's pretty bad.

Check and see if it would be covered by your comprehensive insurance.

G is correct see if your w/screen is covered, most insurance will do it for free or just charge the excess, if it has a crack they wouldn't say no ... Lol

A lot of times the windshield guys dont want to take the job incase they crack it and are liable. I would try flitz polish you might not be able to get rid of it but you will certainly minimize it.

The other thing that works and this might sound crazy but gojo with the pumice stone. Might be sacrilegious on a B but if it works it works.

if you are going to replace it what do you have to lose.

Geez these look tempting...but I'm hesitant. I used a Youtube video once to show me how to polish out acid etching on a storefront window (just regular plate glass) and I bought the kit and compound and did nothing but make a big white permanent smear. I had a pro come out and he made it look like new. But for some reason, it's harder than it looks.

I sourced a new windshield for $1,900, I might go that direction if polishing doens't help.

Good to hear from you. Car was in the shop for three weeks getting a bunch of parts changed out, I've only driven it about 20 miles since.

Ben Hur is sorted out. First one blew up, second one was just a loose fuse or fitting or something, I'll probably never know, the repair shop (not stereo place) fixed it and I never found out what it was, it had to be a loose or bad fuse.

I'm starting the work to get a refund for the first one I bought that blew up good, stereo shop hasn't gotten back to me yet...figures.

I'll type a new post about the radio experience
