Battery Tender
Battery Tender
I keep a battery tender on the main battery via the "cigarette lighter" port in the trunk/boot whenever I'm not driving the car. Does this also keep the starter battery charged or do I need a separate tender for that one?
No .
You only need to keep the LHS ( as you stand behind ) charged .
This is the one that decays as it runs the alarm and fires up all the ECU s when you unlock the car .
The RHS starter just spins the starter motor only nothing else .Its my understanding
Infact without various ECU , relays and other electrotwackery powered up correctly from the RHS the door will not be opened so to speak for the little LHS to do its job .
There may be a connection from the trunk socket on the LHS to the little starter bat ,but I doubt it because it’s irrelevant as the LHS power can be grabbed temporarily using the key anti-clockwise anyhow .
Since there’s no parasitic ( alarm , radio codes , Seat memory codes etc ) on the little RHS starter bat .It can last a long time when the car is parked up .
The LHS needs tendering ........many spurious errors and lights occur if it’s voltage drops .
The cigarette lighter IN will be the LHS bat only .
There a feeling the OEM plug for the charger does both but as said I doubt it L
Hard wire a pig tail to the LHS bat ....that’s what I do and the max parked up time has been 3 months on a bat tender with no ill effects ....just fired straight up .No dash warning lights or chimes etc .
