When I start the CGT with the driver door open I get this message in the center display.

What is it telling me?

 

I usually get that when the turn signal is off center.

 

It's telling you your door is open and the door's courtesy lights are on. The indicator you're receiving in the DIC per this is as it should be (nothing wrong).

Just for clarification, there are two different messages, the picture you posted of "SIDE LIGHT", means that you have the headlight switch set to parking lights, or headlights, not the automatic setting, therefore warning you to turn off the lights manually before leaving the vehicle.

The other message as Sam touched on, is the side of the street "PARKING LIGHT" message, that is when you set the turn signal stalk to either the left or right side to illuminate only either side while street parking.
