Can someone tell me what has to be done to turn the mirror puddle lights on? I'm trying to change the bulbs and I cant get them to turn on. Is it just opening the door and they should come on? Does it have to be dark outside? The turn signals work so at least I know some part of it is working.

 

Mine come on every time I open the trunk or a door.

Interesting. Nothing I do gets them to turn on. Double checked the bulbs and nada. My interior lights do turn on when I open the door and the trunk lights turn on when I open the trunk. Nothing I do gets the puddle lights to turn on.

 

Fuse? Seems unlikely.

You could pull a bulb and check for continuity

I checked the bulbs and I checked for voltage at both of the connectors. Strange. Turn signals work, the mirrors move, everything works but the puddle lights refuse to come on.

 

I may have led you false. Just been out. Mine come on basically when you unlock the car. Pretty sure it matters not if it's dark or light.

So car locked:
Open trunk > On
Open doors > On

Car unlocked:
Open trunk > Off
Open doors > On

Just to be clear, as you stated that you checked for voltage, but you didn't state if you had voltage or not, if you do, then it would be an issue with your "NEW" bulbs, if no voltage, then scan for any faults in each door control module.

My puddle lights come on by just touching the exterior handle with the key in my pocket.

I will check if the arriving or departure settings in the Infotainment head unit for exterior lighting has any effect on the puddle lamps, but I don't think so.

Sorry, Definitely no voltage. Whatever is supposed to trigger them isnt. I'm going to try to do it in the dark and see if that changes anything.

 

Do you have a scanner such as Ross-Tech VCDS ?
As it doesn't matter if it is dark, at least on mine it doesn't, and if there is a fault logged in the system, the system will not allow them to illuminate until the fault is cleared.
