08COntinental FLying Spur

Hello,

I have 08 Flying Spur with 29k miles maintained very well.

The other day whilst going to see my friend, the ESP light and the cruise control light started flashing and stayed on. It also displayed brake failure (!) Stop immediately, Also the center console analogue clock started to wind forward couple of time, then stopped at the right time after 8-9 revolutions. The car drove perfectly, no issues.

I stopped for my meeting upon returning I turned the car on, as soon as I pulled out of the parking lot, this time the central monitor turned off, the analogue fuel gauge dropped to zero, ESP and cruise control flashing, Brake Failure - the car drove perfectly. this time around the speedo started moving from 0 to 35 mph, up and down. The analogue center console clock started going backwards this time, did 6-7 or 8 full turns and stopped at the correct time, Can anyone help me identify what this is? Did I find a worm hole? UFOs? - or just one of the electric boxes going bad?

I went to have a drink later, as I was driving home, the car never did it again, my fuel gauge is rock bottom, ESP light on and cruise control on as well.

Brakes accelerates, everything works, these cannot be deactivated....

The car drives, accelerates,

Hello @Raymond08FS ,
Welcome aboard !

As to your issues, first let's talk about your batteries and their age, if you use a battery tender or not, did you have any issues with keyless entry or interior lighting ?

I am not sure if you are aware that the vehicle has two batteries, the passenger side starter battery, and the drivers side house/main battery, if your house battery is low, the right side battery will still start the engine, but a low or dying house battery will cause all kinds of havoc.

I recently had a similar issue where the EPC, ABS and traction lights came on, along with the brake warning in the center display, but my clock never acted like that, not did my center DIS ever go blank, my issue turned out to be a bad brake switch that was not in sync inside itself, being it has two circuits.

So, let us start with the battery information, then maybe a scan if you have Ross-Tech VCDS, or VAS 5054.

Hi Johnny

Thank you very much for your quick response.
Indeed I just replaced the larger battery on the left side, however, the smaller starter battery needs replacement. I will do that as well. Please recommend a diagnostic tool for the car so I can do my own readings. As a long time Audi fan, I have noticed that most parts are VW, so the local Miami Bentley dealer is charging an arm and a leg for a diagnostic reading.

I had a feeling its something to do with the battery, now I have disconnected the larger battery on the left side, I was thinking to see when reconnected the issue still persists.
I go and replace the smaller started battery now.

Thank you very much in advance, please send me the diagnostic tool name which you would recommend.

Sincerely,
Raymond

Raymond, in Johnny's last paragraph he suggests diagnostics tools for you already, the one I use is called Ross-Tech VCDS, you will need a windows laptop. Go to the Ross Tech website for the software and it will tell you if your laptop is compatible.
