Directly to the FUSE?? Or remove the fuse and clip to where the fuse went??

Yes, directly, or tap the line side of the fuse, so that the load side gets protection.

Hmmm, i did this and nothing happens. i have a 12V+ clamp going directly to the fuse, 12V neg to the metal chassis. In the past I've tested head units by going to the power leads. Do I need to use the power leads at all to test it?

UPDATED:

I didn't turn the unit ON. I assumed it woudl power up as it was inthe car.

Either way - i turned it on....and I STILL got the rebooting Bentley Logo.

CONFIRMED its a bad Motherboard or something. i'll send it off to one of the companies that seem to specialize in this.

Thanks for the diagnostic help!

@ttpopo ,
Sorry, I forgot to mention that part, you have to physically turn on the unit, as it it out of the vehicle, and doesn't get the wake-up call as when you open the door.

At least you proved the problem to be the head unit itself.

@ttpopo & @robob ,
Just thinking out loud here, service Techs have mentioned the motherboard in the past, but other Techs have also mentioned the HDD (hard drive) as being the failing component, which makes me think, do your head units actually have a HDD and not an SDD, therefore the HDD has moving parts, like the disc reader arm getting stuck, the screenshots do show "HDD", so, that reminds me of my old computer that kept looping on startup, I would give it a smack and all would be good, then every once in a while it would need a smack again, if I left the unit on, there was never an issue, but if shut down and turned back on some time later, it would need the same treatment, I could hear the mechanism skipping, gave it a slap and it ran smoothly and quietly, then I replaced the HDD with a SDD, never an issue again...
So, I wonder, @ttpopo , do you hear any sounds of the HDD running while on the bench, if so, any repetitive sounds, would you mind giving the head unit a smack to jolt the HDD into compliance, just to see if the boot finally takes hold.

One other thought comes to mind, being that you both have the second generation head units, you have no CD changer in the glovebox like the Gen 1, so, does the Gen 2 head unit store up to 10 CD's worth of data on the HDD like my Range Rover does, meaning you insert the CD, the HDD copies said CD and ejects CD for the next to be inserted and copied, if you infact have this CD data storage of the HDD, are all slots full, if so, have you deleted all saved music from the virtual CD player/HDD, as in, is it possible that a file saved in this virtual CD system of the HDD is causing an issue of booting, it's just ust a thought, as I inserted a Blu-ray into my Range Rover, and the system just sat there looping trying to read the disc over and over, as soon as I ejected it, all was normal, it plays one CD at a time, or stores up to ten CD worth of data in the virtual CD changer, it also plays DVD's and I have inserted DVD-A, what a sound with 29 speakers...
sorry, I drifted off into Range Rover Autobiography LWB mode...

Picture of my beauty.

Johnny

DAMN!

That is lovely.

but yes, its almost certainly an HDD issue. BTW, my Gen2 has a 6CD player in the glovebox, it will copy MP3 CDs to the HDD...how dumb is that????

normally, a failing HDD WILL fail eventually. I've ALSO had failed solid state drives though!

Hello @pavelspod ,
Welcome to 6speedonline !

As to the WT10340 disc, if you mean share, as in a copy of the disc, I wouldn't do that with theses head units, to much risk.

You can purchase the disc at your local Bentley dealership, I purchased the one for @robob at Bentley of Edison, (NJ), it was $15 to $20 iirc, or you could ask Robob if he wants to part ways with his.

Also, please tell us the year and model of your vehicle, possibly also the head unit part number, if you have it.

Johnny

Hey Johnny and all,

Found a car stereo shop that has dealt with Bentleys. They sent the unit to three different techs. First one was convinced it was the motherboard, but his repair did not fix the issue. Third tech fixed it. He won't say what he did, but the shop sent him more than just the dash unit.

In case, someone is wondering, I waited so long because I did not want some 10K bill from the dealer. I brought another car to Houston Car Stereo and they had a Flying Spur apart in their workshop. So they said they said they would repair it. They hung in there, trying to avoid having to get a replacement unit.

Hope y'all well and good,
Robert

Hello @robob ,
Hope all is well, how is the unit holding up ?

You stated that they sent more than the head unit, do you know what else they removed from the vehicle to send, as that may lead us to a clue of the issue.

Johnny

@Johnny Hotspur GT I had mine fixed. It was an HDD issue. You can send the unit to him and he fixes it within 24hrs. the issue is common and kown, he's abler to reformat/replace the OS on the HDD and then copy it back over. Easy repair.

Here's the service that I used. I paid a bit more when I did it. Looks like they are on sale right now. There may be others, but this guy was rapid, and I had no other issues. BTW, he can add an android auto unit in for you - which really modernizes the unit, while keeping everything looking exactly stock. (it's a selectable layer)

Thanks for all support!!

Im amazed with this community!! Was not expecting such a support and help! U are amazing!!
my problem is that im in spain and its diff to ship parts to usa or uk where there are shops that apparently can fix this issue.

for me its so disapointing that the official dealer wanted to charge me 7k for a new amplifier instead of fixing this. I took the amplifier to Naim service and it was checked and they told me it was even used, all perfect.

i personally was considering buying the new conti or a 2022 speed but really upset with the only official dealer in Madrid.

@rodi I woudl still reach out and talk to Eli at Bavlogic. It's pretty easy to pull the head unit out. So shipping can take you 1-2 weeks...but you get it fixed. Mine was fixed 2 yrs ago, I have had no issues since. On another hand, he MAY be able to direct you somebody in europe to do this. I'm almost certain there is a guy in Germany doing the same thing. I saw some videos of some guy in DM that does Kessy and ECU wizarddry...
