bumper repair / wrong plastic

Hi. 05 cgt, I have minor damage to front bumper from a rock on road. I'm being told by body shop they can't patch the repair as it's the wrong plastic. Are they correct?

BS. Virtually all automotive plastics are repairable and Bentley bumpers are no exception. I've salvaged strips from my damaged bumper for further repair and they plastic weld just fine. Not to mention chemical fillers, glues and so on. Maybe they had plastic strips from VW Jetta, tried to bond them with Bentley plastic and were so surprised that the seam won't stick that they had to come up with an excuse.

It's not the wrong plastic in the bumper, it's wrong materials they're trying to use to fix it.

Thanks. So there are two types of damage
1) cracks ... these look like they could be bonded with apoxy or similar. In other words it's a Crack, not a gap
2. The other type are gaps , the worst is 5" long x 3" wide. However, I have kept several pieces what fell off and could kinda jigsaw them back together but there will still be some gaps

Also , I'd rather not remove the bumper , I do have a plastic welder but not sure I can get perfect access behind the bumper.

So my questions are :
A. What's best glue to seal cracks ?
B. What's best type of "bondo" to fill gaps , ie a bond that will work with existing Bentley plastic ?

If there are actual gaps (3x5"?!) you're pretty much $#!% out of luck. Filling them would necessitate a framework inside the filler (think reinforced concrete) and has a good chance of cracking soon after repair.

New bumper shells start at around $1500 and second hand ones below $1k mark + a few hundred for paint so while it's something, it's not prohibitively expensive. When I cracked the front bumper on a tree stump it took my son all of half an hour to find a replacement for €650. There are bargains out there and getting it replaced may well save you quite a bit of unnecessary headache in the long run.
