Hi all. As mentioned in my steering rack thread, I just picked up the car from my Indy today after getting the rack replaced. He told me that the engine light came on for P2189. He cleared it before giving me the car, and the light stayed off for about 60 miles. Then it came back on. It doesn’t feel sluggish or anything like it’s losing power. Car is a ‘14 Spur W12 with 49,900 miles. Any help with this is appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hmmm. Steering rack replacement gets close to the vacuum lines. Smoke test recomended. The mechanic might have caught one during replacement. The vacuum lines are brittle/fragile.
Thanks for the response. I don’t know if this is related, but I have another thread from sometime back in February about a P0089 code as a pending code. There was no engine light back then, and the code showed up as a pending code instead of a stored code on the scanner. Do you think I can keep driving with this issue?

Still, a smoke test is advised since the vacuum lines are susceptible to leaking. This wiil help to determine the next level of action.

As 1eapplebaum said, a smoke test, BUT, if I may suggest, before anyone starts messing with any vacuum lines or performing a smoke test, please check the drivers side (bank 2) air filter box and it's MAF seal, be sure that the seal is properly seated in the turbo intake funnel, as P2189 refers to bank 2 as a lean condition, and being that the power steering pump was replaced, I am certain that the technician removed the air box to gain access to the pump, you may want to also check the vacuum hose connections at the rear of the intake manifold under the "B" cover.
As to the P0089, I believe that we discussed this before, being that you have a 2014, you do not have the vacuum operated fuel pressure regulator on the fuel rail as earlier years did, you have a electric pressure sensor in it's place on the injection fuel rail, iirc, your 2014 either has a (shown with electrical connection) fuel pressure regulator built into the fuel filter under the vehicle, or built into each fuel pump in the tank, I'd have to refresh my memory on that one.

Dropped off the car at my Indy this morning. The car started up with the check engine light, but magically disappeared right as I pulled into the my mechanic’s garage and restarted the car. The shop is 15 mins from my house. We scanned the car and the code was still stored but the cel was off. Will update you on his findings tomorrow.
I picked up the car this morning after my mechanic said that it’s fine to drive for now and that he hasn’t noticed anything bad yet. I drove the car home and after a few start cycles, the engine light came back on. The car also idled bad for like 5 seconds after a startup. Car drives fine and idles fine after the startup. I am not mechanically inclined to do any of the diagnostics really, but would appreciate the advice from anyone so that I could show my mechanic. If anyone has any tips on how to diagnose this myself that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again
Here’s the update as of now. The engine light went off once again, after about 30 miles of driving. It might come back soon, but has anyone ever had this kind of issue? I remember a thread on this from around 2016/2017, and it looks like the outcome wasn’t shared. The light is intermittent.

In all do respect the following (already) posted recommendations need to be followed.
1. Purchase the Ross Tech scanner and become familiar with it. Post a scan when available.
2. Have someone double check that the air cleaner assembly(s) are properly seated.
3. Consider hiring someone to perform a smoke test.
Intermittent check engine lights happen. Without a proper full diagnosic scan no one will provide an accurate solution.
Thank you. Which model ross tech do you guys recommend? As far as the diagnostics/smoke test goes, my mechanic wanted me to come back sometime next week when he is completely free. He didn't want me to leave the car and wait again.

See the attached document to purchase directly from Ross Tech. Also read through the document to understand the proper PC to use in conjunction with their diagnostic cable. This unit is a dealer level tool.
*UPDATE 6/9/25*
My Indy told me today that after a smoke test, he noticed smoke from the airbox. This would most likely be from when the dealer opened it to get access to the steering pump as Johnny initially stated. He said he will update me tomorrow as to if there’s any gasket needed or if it’s just a simple case of refitting it.
