I’m in the process of upgrading my audio system with new speakers and a new Android Head Unit, specifically one of these:
I've run into a bit of an issue for which I’m currently seeking technical support from the manufacturer, in China. The problem is that a few of the original features do not seem to work via the new head unit; the TPMS system and the CD Changer. With the original factory system, I was able to view and calibrate tyre pressures via the centre console screen.
When I go to the TPMS settings menu on the new Android unit, none of the options change. On the TPMS screen, none of the tyre sensors are showing any pressures. With the CD Changer, I can’t select any of the discs and the audio does not play from the CD. From what I’ve tested, all other CAN related features work well; vehicle height, climate controls, wiper maintenance position, headlight delay etc.
It seems to me like a compatibility issue, possibly between different CAN protocols?
The Tech Support hasn’t been very helpful. They insist that the 2007 was only able show a TPMS warning via the instrument cluster, and not show individual pressures on the centre console, and this is why it doesn’t work.
My question to you all is this; when did this feature change on the Gen 1? Was there a specific date when they changed the TPMS from a basic IC warning to a more sophisticated system in the centre screen? I’m wondering if my car was built in a changeover period?
if it helps, I took these photos of my ZAB diagnostic screens before I removed it:
Thanks for the reply Zissis, I notice yours is a 2010, so did yours have the RNS-derived head unit originally, the one with 2 rotary controls on the screen?
My current thinking is that the engineers who came up with the new head unit haven’t realised that there was an iteration of the old ZAB system which did incorporate the TPMS display, and have just assumed that this wasn’t introduced until the RNS system.
I might look into the digital instrument cluster soon, have you sorted out the issues with yours?

My unit was the older ZAB system. 2012 onwards was when ZAB got phased out. As for the cluster, yes after a few updates the clusters works fine now.
Hello @DanW12 ,
I am confused by your comments, you already know yourself upon your own use and experience using your original 2007 Infotainment head unit, therefore you know yourself that the technical support person is 100% full of it, there is no specific date for any change to the GEN 1 system, as there was no change, and I am not sure how you came to the conclusion that somehow any GEN 1 had the RNS system, they all have the ZAB system as Zissis stated, and as you saw on your own 2007, the Infotainment head unit screen does in fact show the tire pressure on each tire, the speed selection option, etc, this doesn't matter if it is a 2004 to a 2011, all of these years have the tpms on the Infotainment head unit screen, the only thing the technician is saying correctly, is the fact that a low tire pressure warning does only appear in the instrument cluster, both in the (DIS) center screen, and the speedometer section of the instrument cluster, a warning never appears on the Infotainment screen, only the settings and readout of pressures are displayed there.
The only difference being that prior to 2007, I believe one had the option to turn off the TPMS system in the Infotainment head unit, as shown on my original 2005 screen I have pictured below, the "On / Off" in the upper left of the screen, whereas in the 2007 head unit and 2010 head unit I have in my GT, the on off option is gone, as TPMS became mandatory in 2007.
Just to note, in my first picture of the 05 with the on/off selection, the TPMS pressure monitor not being available message is being displayed because the head unit was out of the vehicle being bench tested, but it shows the TPMS system is there.
@zissis ,
Would you be so kind as to take some pictures of your new Android Infotainment head unit screen showing the TPMS menu in action, with tire pressure readings.
