I recently picked up a Bentley Bentayga and was planning to install a dash cam near the rearview mirror. While looking things over, I noticed what appears to already be a camera in that area.
Does anyone know what that camera is for, and whether it can be accessed or used in any way?
Also, does anyone know what the button on the bottom of the rearview mirror does? I’m wondering if it has any connection to the camera, or if it serves a completely different function.
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Are you sure? I had actually bought the FITCAMX when I went to install it, I noticed the camera was already there. Mine looks different then the FITCAMX. Here is a side picture.
Also, what does that button on the bottom of the rear-view do?
Neither of my 2020 models has a button under the mirror. What year is yours? Maybe Bentley has added it as a factory option. If you get the build sheet by sending your VIN to contactbentley@contact.bentleymotors.com you can see if it's listed as an installed option. Is there anything in the owner's manual about the mirror button or the camera? I'd also go through the menus on the infotainment screen to see if there's anything related.
If you do a search you'll find that there are a LOT of FitCamX knock-offs now so if not factory, if could be any of those.
What happens if you press the button? Does the mirror dim?
AFAIK, it's not factory. Are there any buttons on it, maybe on the bottom? You could pop it off and see if there are any clues inside if no buttons.
With the car running or ignition on, open the connections tab on your phone and look for a WiFi SSID that's new. It may provide a clue as to the brand. You could try the Fitcam app to see if it connects.
