Apparently the writer of that article doesnt realize this is NOT the first M3 sedan ever to be built.

Not the first, I'm sure everyone is aware of the last being the E36. The point is that this particular sedan is being released with only a manual in the time of the automatic only IS-F Sedan and C63 AMG. The question is is that a smart move? Some argue that manual+sedan is unpractical while others argue that they prefer an automatic with their sedans for maximum comfort. What is the incentive to buy a manual M3 if you can get same or better performance in a C63?

I made minor changes so the argument is clearer.

^^^

the fact that alot of M3 buyers will want a manual, but with the added space the sedan offers.

The DSG style 'box will be available in March anyway, so its a moot point.

"So, it appears as though BMW will be releasing a M3 sedan for the first time since the E36"

Exactly. Writer needs to learn some history. Who is writing these things anyway?

I honestly think that it will sell well.
I have several friends that I have special ordered 335i sedans, that were manuals, because as one friend said - why back an automatic in a BMW. If that sentiment follows, also with the idea that people will want more room, especially folks in that demographic - generally married, with kids.

It'll sell well. And it'll be HUGE when the M-DCT comes out, which may be with the sedan, per some reports.

It's going to do well, but 4 doors don't belong on an M car as far as I'm concerned. Just my opinion.

if i dont do a convertible, i will be in a sedan w/o a hesitation. so i would think there are a lot of people that passed on the old m3 just because it was a coupe. actually, if the e46 m3 had a sedan, i probably would have that, instead of going the 330i sedan, then m3 convertible route that i took.

M5 is a better alternative ofcourse, The M3 sedan feels odd and out of proportion very sublte to my taste if I wanted a car in that size I wouldnt hesitate to go to the IS-F Lexus or C63 AMG.
