As for the rest, I'm probably looking to spend in the 30's for a used M3. I could easily spend that much on a new Camry and I don't think I would be enduring nearly as much criticism on here. Personally, having given her a budget to work with, I'm glad I've raised a child that appreciates how much better it would be to get a used M3 than a new Camry . . .
That's because she's not paying for the gas, repairs, or insurance on it. Of course it's a better buy in her eyes. She doesn't have any of the extra responsibilities associated with owning a car like that. I had a 330ci for a while. They're just as expensive as pcars to fix. Tell her she has to pay the insurance and repairs and see which one she picks

FTW!

As long as she behaves responsibly the car will probably teach her a lot more about driving than a Camry too, so it might work out out to be a safer choice in the end.

Word.

Btw grey interior is yuck, go for black/red if you insist on getting a white body.

Andrew. Doubtless you are right that the M3 will be much more expensive over the long haul. And I recognize how blessed we are to even consider such a purchase. And any car she gets I will be paying for the gas, insurance, maintenance, etc. for the next few years. Overall I don't think my children are spoiled or brats, and they are grateful for everything they have, and understand that it all requires hard work, and that they will be expected to work hard as well. In fact, she busts her *** working in a restaurant every day, scrubbing and cleaning and rearranging when business is slow while other employees are just standing around. I'm sure I'm not doing a perfect job of raising them, but I think I've done pretty well so far.

My point was just that she has an automatic 5-series BMW already, and how glad I am that instead of wanting a new 5-series, or a new Merecedes, or a new Lexus, or whatever, she is specifically asking for a used M3 with a 6-speed. The main point I was trying to make was that I like the fact that all four of my children are growing up as car enthusiasts.

Russ,

I think its awesome you are doing this for your daughter. My dad helped with the down payment of my 03 M3 when I first got out of college. I loved that car, and thank him all the time for helping me get into it.

Seems like you have done a fantastic job of raising your daughter, and your love for your children comes through in a lot of your posts. The best part about it is that she is growing into a car enthusiast! To be able to share that passion with your children is truly something special.

If I can assist in any way, whether it be answering any questions you have about the E46 or viewing a car in the DFW area, please let me know. That is not a flippant response over the internet.... that is a sincere statement and promise.

An 18 year old girl ( who has to be a looker, look at Rus for gods sake! ) who wants a 6 speed M3 to autocross and probably take to the track! Hell yeah.

Someones been raising his clan smart.

Make sure to post pics ( of the car ) when she finds one she likes.
