Bmw M3 or 335i (vert)
335's are fun. For the money the power is well worth it even in stock form and can be made better with a few mods.
M3's are an all around better car interior and ride quality. The new DTC transmission is a great jump over the SMG from the e46 models.
M3 with DTC is prob the best bet.

I was given a 335I as a loaner. It was a fast car, but very doll and boring. It wasn't a car that I would wake up on Saturday and Sundays and just say, I'm going to go randomly drive it.
Also when I was commuting to work, I always felt like I had to prove something to someone. I had to prove to people that the 335I was fast, so I was constantly driving like a maniac getting people's attention. Always looking to see if other cars were looking at it. (Rice Mode Activated). At the end of the day, it was just another 3 series within the many new ones on the road.
When I got my M3 back, that was no longer the case. Wouldn't want the 335I even if it had 500HP. I think this is why a lot of 335I are on the market for sale. The first a few weeks, the owners love the raw power. After a while, due to dispassionate connectivity of the car to the road, it just doesn't seem as exciting

70+ for sure ... Not worth it IMO ...the E93 (vert) M3 will be well over 80K. When your in that price range there are much better cars for the $$$
I drive a 335i so maybe Im a bit biased. I test drove a new M3 and I hate it. I lover the tq of the 335i from the turbos down low compared to the M3 and my car with its piggyback and exhaust feels faster. The M3 is also suppose to be all about handling but on the road it really doesn't feel any more balanced then my 335i, maybe that would change on the track, but if I want a track car I would buy a Evo (been there done that) or Elise.
335i is the best bang for the $$ in the performance lux market (well maybe the 135i is better but I compare the 135i with the Evo X and new STI).
A nicely modded 335i vert would be sick:

To the OP, you will be very happy with the M3. IMO, skip the vert and get a coupe. You're really killing the performance and looks wit the vert. It feels a lot heavier and the folding hardtop just does not flow at all with the car. By at all, I mean AT ALL!

I'd take a E92 M3 over the M5. It's just much more fun to drive and much lighter. People need to stop comparing old cars to the new E92 M3. The M5 isn't old, but like the 996TT comparison. Eh, the 996TT is DATED. The interior, the exterior, sure it's fast, but there is more to a new M3 then just performance.
