I drive a 335i so maybe Im a bit biased. I test drove a new M3 and I hate it. I lover the tq of the 335i from the turbos down low compared to the M3 and my car with its piggyback and exhaust feels faster. The M3 is also suppose to be all about handling but on the road it really doesn't feel any more balanced then my 335i, maybe that would change on the track, but if I want a track car I would buy a Evo (been there done that) or Elise.

335i is the best bang for the $$ in the performance lux market (well maybe the 135i is better but I compare the 135i with the Evo X and new STI).

A nicely modded 335i vert would be sick:

I disagree with you on the 335 vert. I just recently sold a 335 conv. and just purchased an M3 conv. which I will pick up tomorrow. I noticed a substantial difference in the 2 cars.I also did not pay over 80K. I paid 74K for a very well equipped car. Please don't think I am knocking the 335. It's a great car but it's not an M3.Good luck with your car!!! I can tell you this, the resale on the 335 vert. is amazing.I got top dollar from a dealer!!!!!
