Trade my 02 996TT for an 06 M5? Should I?

I have a 2002 Silver/Black Turbo right now and I've been seriously contemplating trading it in for a 2006 M5. I REALLY like the Turbo but for some reason or another I haven't gotten to LOVE it yet. I feel like I haven't connected with it like I have with my previous cars. I don't get to "drive" too much because I'm usually in my office. It would be nice to have a car to drive clients around in, obviously the Turbo is not meant for that. I don't really like bigger sedans but I like how the M5 drives. I don't want a new M3 or E46 M3 which I've already had. The M6 isn't appealing enough for me, I prefer the M5.

These two cars are in completely different classes... what would you do?

I sold my 996 turbo for a E55 AMG W211 and later trade it for a M5 and I don't regret it for a second.

I never connected with the 996TT turbo's that i've had either, interesting, and i had 2 in a span of 4 months 03 TT-X50 to a 05 TT-cab - Traded mine in for 360 (best move i've ever made ), but i also have an E55, both cars i feel completely in tune with - i'm sure the M5 would be a great alternative to the TT, same amount of power, more comfort/features, just a better car all around imo

I think that if you are not happy with the 996tt, you should make the switch. The m5 is more practical, and has great performance to go along with it. We had an rs6 in the family that went back last year, and it is my favorite car that I have ever driven (granted I have never driven any ferarris or anything, but I have driven some very respectable german sports cars). The combination of functionality and performance is unbeatable! Good luck with your decision.

Truth be told, if you are not going to mod the 996tt, maybe you should trade it in as it can get boring in stock form (the car doesnt let you make a mistake), however; i think your going to get bored of the M5 just as quickly. I dont think it is going to be as fast as the 996tt or have the presence either.

My Adice ---- MOD THE 996tt and enjoy the hell out of it! It is such a great platform to work off of.

Go for the M5. You will have it all. Power, comfort and luxury.
My modded M5 does a fair amount of spanking out there and still perfect for the wife and I to go to dinner and socialize.

Good luck, enjoy the selection process.

You won't regret the M5. It's a beast in a suit.

The Porsches aren't nice to take the wife out on the town with?

I don't have one and this doesn't come from personal experience.

I would imagine you could take the wife out on the town but it wouldn't be as comfortable as with a sport sedan. Any Pcar is so low that getting in and out is a challenge with a gown or nice dress. Even a guy who is nicely dressed would not be as comfortable. I had a G35 and it was not the same as going out in our Lexus.

The M5 is a great substitute for everything. Fast, comfy, good handling performance and cool.

I also found it hard to connect with my 996tt commuting from office to home. You need to take it to the track or canyon to connect.

I owned an M5 and when I taken delivery of my turbo I never drove the M5 and never looked back.

two completely different vehicles. I dont understand what/where the comparison are.

honestly, I find the M5 as a compromise vehicle.

I never intended to imply that a Porsche is not a nice vehicle to go out with the wife and socialize. You can not take another couple though.
As per my sig, I have a 997 GT3 and GT3RS therefore I love the P-cars.

The M5 is driveable and not a hardcore performance vehicle yet will run an 11.6 sec 1/4 mile at 126 trap.
The M5 is not compromised.

Cheers,
Ranger

it's a fast 4 door sedan that's about it. for a 4 door sedan it;s not very comfortable for passengers yet not sportly enough to hang on the track or canyons like the old M5's of old.

cool if you want to drag race with 4 passengers. in comfort of a ny taxi cab.
