2008 m3 coupe with dct - c63 comparison?
I do have to mention one thing...the C63 does have better steering feel/feedback than the m3 (and every magazine confirms this as well). the m3s servo-tronic was one of a few things i didnt like about the car.
Why didn't you adjust it? The base mode gives moderate feedback as it allows you to quickly make turns in tight spaces.
i am not trying to support a lost cause or anything, but was just reading this, and thought i might as well put in the thread its from motortrend, so bias will obviously be an issue, but intresting nonetheless.
With the DCT, the 414-hp M3 closes the straight-line performance gap to the sturm-und-drang 451-hp Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG. It'll run wheel-to-wheel with the thundering Mercedes to 60 mph and is a tenth faster to 100 mph. Quicker acceleration off the line gets the gruntmeister Benz to the end of the quarter in a tenth of a second less, but the trap speeds are virtually identical.

then again, it is being compared to what I drive in the Cayman S, which IMO has few equals in terms of steering feel.
Well, we all know numbers on paper dont mean a thing, because the 997 GT3 has the same hp as the m3, and less than the c63 and can still crush them both in any performance figure out there despite not having the most hp or most tq. hell, a 996 GT3 with only 381 hp is still faster than them both (as its pretty much almost as fast as the 997 GT3). so numbers on paper dont mean much, its the real world results that speak volumes (given equal drivers that is).
just cause you have it in m mode doesnt mean you have the highest performance settings you have to input them

I will do the 996 GT3 MKII vs. M3 DCT run soon and get it on video. I think it will be extremely close either way. There is a video posted of a 996 GT3 running a DCT but the GT3 is a MKI.

When it comes down to it....hp/weight ratio is a pretty good indicator. Gearing factors in also.
I think he was just giving a general overview that there is more to performance than just hp / torque ratings. We could go over the variables for hours, temperature, tires, gearing, aerodynamics, etc.
HTML Code:
Exactly, you have to set it in Idrive.

Exactly! there is so much more to it than just XXX hp and XXX tq.

Yeah...there is weight and gearing which you excluded from what is most likely on "paper". I was just pointing this out to you. You factor in these and you start running out of variables.
Again..even on paper...the hp/weight ratio proves the GT3 is faster than the M3. This is because the GT3 is so much lighter despite having same rated hp.
Of course there are a few exceptions to the rule but there are not that many....especially if racing to a distance in excess of a 1/4 mile from a rolling start.

Anyone who can call the E92 M3 "boring" hasn't driven one spiritedly. The new M3 is one of the most exciting cars in its price range, and definitely THE most exciting in its class (C63, ISF, etc). The handling and power delivery (gives more and more as you reach redline) are incredible. Everything about the performance of this car screams, "Sharp." The M3's reflexes are amazing and really heighten the experience.
I've driven a C63 a few times and wasn't overly impressed with it. Each time I came in with reasonably high expectations of its power; each time I came away disappointed. I was prepared for the lack of "sharpness" in its reflexes compared to the M3. However, for a car that gives up to the M3 so much in other areas of performance, I was expecting the engine to compensate more. It just doesn't feel that much faster than the M3. And, opposite of my expectations, the C63 turned out to be LESS FUN on the street -- moving through traffic and even full throttle redline blasts in many situations simply felt better in the M3.
My test drives went M3, C63, C63, M3, M3, C63 -- I think I'm pretty much 100% set on my opinions.
