2008 m3 coupe with dct - c63 comparison?
I agree! but I have no intention to track the car. I also don't want to hear my wife complaining like she did about the ride in the C55. The regular suspension is stiff enough and rides great for the street. However, if you want a performance suspension you are better off not getting the PP from MBenz and spending @ $2,500 and having Renntech upgrade the stock one. The only must is the LSD!
The person in the video says "bone stock c63" after he excuses the people standing around him. Maybe it doesn't run 12.1@116 stock, but it's still faster and better handling (with performance package) then the M3. Maybe the M3 is more fun to some, but for me the tremendous pull and grunt of the C63 are more favorable; that's just my opinion. Something that the OP was looking for - peoples opinions.
DCT is obviously very fast, but it's not that much faster then someone shifting who can drive. People are making it seem as though it will be 5+ car lengths faster then the manual driver... All in attempt to try to fool everyone into believing that the transmission will make their precious favorite the faster car - which it is not.
This argument isn't about what to get. It's about delusional M3 owners saying their car is equal with the C63 in terms of performance. It's not, period. There are numerous testimonials from owners and drivers (one being myself) of both cars that clearly prove the C63 is the faster car. It has nothing to do with being biased, liking high reving. or low reving better - it has to do with facts...
Even if, JUST IF, the M3 DCT was faster, with $2500 you can reflash the C63 ECU to yield the same amount of power the high end models with the 6.2L motor share (5xxhp). That's a whole 80hp more then the M3, for $2500. You will be lucky to find an exhaust system for the M3 for that much. Not to mention the C63 with ECU will absolutely obliterate the M3 in every gear, from a start, and from a roll.

You obviously have no experience with the M3 DCT, sorry, your testimonials are worth about as much as your post of a stock C63 running a 12.1 @ 116. You want to deal with facts? Deal with the M5board video as evidence, where the C63 owner himself posted on Mbworld he flat out was beat. That is called reality.
Better handling? Seriously, your post should have been deleted after that. The ONLY performance aspect of the M3 the C63 can hope to match is the staight line, period. You simply don't know what you are talking about. Read the Motor Trend best handling car issue and see what the DCT M3 did around Laguna Seca. It was a few tenths off the 997 turbo's time and finished third overall, behind the R8 and GTR.
So the only thing you have to hang on to now is the aftermarket? I sure hope a 6.2 liter with a much lower specific output has aftermarket potential. Don't forget, the C32 guys ran their mouths when the car first came out that the E46 M3 had no aftermarket potential. Where are they now? When boost comes for the E92 M3, watch out.

This is in stark contrast to the position you held before as to which car is faster.
You stilll sound a bit frustrated and defensive with your knee-jerk decision to buy an M3 because Car & Driver rated the car higher then the C63 and did not tell you what I know! It would be best for you to store the M3 at the track and buy a C63 for your everyday driver. That way you will be able to reach the pinnacle of satisfaction and your frustation
will be over
! At a minimum, I highly recommend that you test drive a C63 instead of relying on third party information to make your points.
I see that you still need some work with your reading comprehension. The C63 is clearly faster if you took the opportunity to read any car magazine or actually drove the car. However, I don't consider 3/10th's in the quarter to be a significant difference. My point if you did not yet get it is that the C63 feels much faster and is much more fun to drive on the street.

The C63 isn't clearly faster, MEET up and prove it. All these C63 people would rather just keyboard race. If you want to use the excuse of not racing on the street California speedway has street legal drag days in November, does that work for you?

as far as straight line acceleration goes...stock the c63 traps ~116, the m3 traps ~113. the m3 is def faster on a track (although i dont know much about the performance of the c63 with the performance pack). its just a matter of preference...
You need to stop posting. After your little rant where you use a modified car as your backup and make a mistake you want everyone to simply take your word that the C63 is faster? M5board is biased, right, when the C63 wins it isn't but when it loses it is. At least you put a smile on my face with your nonsense, if BlackC63's father lets him take the his car out on weekends I would gladly meet up and put it to a rest. Don't be surprised when the M3 pulls. I had to shut C32 owners up back in the day with my E46 M3 as well.

The video I posted is not of a modded car. The camera man clearly loudly says "bone stock c63 right here" in the video after he excuses those blocking his view. IT'S A STOCK CAR - NOT MODDED! That's reality - the reality you refuse to acknowledge. Many other independent car magazines show the C63 running 12.1-12.5 @ 114-116 mph. I know Magazines aren't reputable, but it's on par with what owners are getting as well.
As for the M3 being the best handling car. I would argue with that. It's a great handling car, but it's heavy, and you can feel that. It feels great though. The C63 with performance package would give it a serious run for it's money - ask anyone who has driven one. The car feels like a totally different car. The M3 is not that much faster on the track then the stock non PP C63 AMG. The biggest issue the C63 had against the M3 on the track was the fact that it did not have an LSD and constantly spin the tires around corners (see the tiff needle M3 vs C63 comparison). The PP equipped car will definitely be at least equal if not slightly faster. That's not to say that the M3 won't still feel more involved - it probably will. The C63 is a Mercedes after all.
I've never been a fan of forced induction on BMW M cars. The reliability is sacrificed tremendously. Not to mention the cost of building a car like that and owning and maintaing one usually out prices the original cost of the car. Owning a e46 with $45,000 worth of mods that is barely as quick as a stock 996TT X50 is stupid in my book.
What are you babbling about? On what page did I say the C63 would feel faster, I think page 1? After that now you have changed your tone.

wow...fun post this turned into.
just to recap, from a non-car junkie point of view.
I agree that in a straightline the M3 feels a bit average, but is nonetheless fun to drive and takes curves nicely...I also like the understated styling/coupe and better gas mileage. But I cannot for the life of me understand its pricing....I dont think I would pay 10grand more for an m3 coupe than a c63....i understand i am comparing the price of a coupe to a sedan and it depends on options but still the price increase is significant.
Though I know nothing about engines and numbers, I even felt as though the m3 had low torque for the type of car it is and its competition....the isf felt much livelier...but the center stack looks like it came out of a camry...
anyways,
thanks again.
I made an offer on an M3 coupe with dct, I will see if he accepts, otherwise, I will wait till i can take the c63 for a real test drive...but as a dd i wouldnt take it with the performance pack.
thanks again.

A conservative 12.5 (12.3 per Car & Driver) compared to a 12.6 in the quarter is faster! Have you noticed that not one other person agrees with you? In a straight line, the C63 is clearly faster then an M3.
Also, please explain to everyone why the M3's are discounted at least $1,500 on Cars Direct as opposed to no discount for the C63. I wonder??? Could the answer be because the C63 is in higher demand and a more exciting car to drive on the street? How often do you take your car to the track, 6 times a year at best?

does all the torque and lack of edc and all the customizable options(suspension softer and all that) make the m3 a better dd than the c63. or the c63 in comfort without hard amg suspension is better>
thanks
i personally found my s550 boat more peppy off the line than an m3...using paddleshift and without

What is the hold up? Do you even have a C63?

I am getting ready to install the Renntech ECU 2 upgrade which will leave you starring at my back bumper wishing you had an engine to mod. I can fit your 4.0 liter in my glovebox! You would have been better off with a 335i and that is another reason why BMW is going to be stuck with a lot of new cars with only 295lbs of torque.
I drove both cars and the answer is simple and easy. If you are going to track the car buy the M3. Some cars sound fast, feel fast and are fast. If that is what you are looking for get the C63. The M3 feels like it has a 6 under the hood! However, l will tell you that in my opinion the M3 is a better made car and will probably be more reliable then the C63 but it is not a fun car to have as a daily driver. It's boring! Why would BMW put 295lbs of torque in an M3, if the 335i has 300? The 4.0 liter BMW engine can fit inside the glove box of the C63! BMW needs to pull their heads out of their "..." and step up the torque. On the street, torque is everything and HP is nothing! A guess that is why you don't see too many new M3's on the street. They are sitting on the dealer lots collecting dust.
I see a lot more M3's on the street than C63's, but that is besides the point. You say the C63 is more fun as a daily driver. Fun is subjective. I find high revving, high hp, great handling cars more fun. I find bloated cars with big toquey V8's fun for short periods of time(donuts, burnouts etc. nothing I would do on the street) and absolutely boring on the track. I would rather be able to have fun driving home on the windy roads of Las Virgenes with an m3. The torque of a C63 does nothing for me there. For the street and freeway the m3 is more than capable of fast acceleration in the middle of a gear. Most of the time I don't drive too crazy on the freeway or street anyways. I have driven both the m3 and c63 and find the m3 much more fun to drive. The car feels more precise, less bloated and is high revving. The C63 is a great car and I'm happy you enjoy your car, but forcing your subjective thoughts of fun on someone else is pointless. The c63 is one of the best handling MB's I've driven, but it still feels bloated and the interior is very cheap feeling. Gas? I've been reading that C63's have been averaging 11 mpg with moderately aggressive driving and 18mpg for the m3. I'm not saying it isn't a great car, but it isn't fun for me. With that said, I personally don't like either car particularly and that is why I will most likely be purchasing a used 997S. Great cars, just not my cup of tea.
I may have to take you up on your offer, since it's hard to find any M3's on the road. They have been out since March and they are stock piling at the dealers. You must be a BMW salesman and are very concerned about unloading your inventory of M3's!

Go ahead and install the ECU, when you have the ***** to step up my M3 will be ready, regardless of your ecu or not.
