What exactly does the POWER button do?
Hi, i was wondering what exactly the power button does on the e92 m3?
i have heard varying answers from bmw sales people and service people.
some have said it gives a 100hp more, others say it varies the engine and throttle algorithms, some say both, others say nothing....etc.
of course, i am not allowed to click it yet, i am only at 1300km, but i am curious.
thanks again.
also, has anyone, installed the mobridge ipod integration kit in this car?
thanks

There's no additional power on the E9x M3 with the power button. It sharpens the throttle a little. I don't like it since it's almost like an on/off switch.
The big debate is if you're getting extra power once you have your first service done.

ok, thanks.
so it wont develop more hp when engaged, i guess that s a myth.
i was also curious, after the first service will it be a noticeably different>
also, does it just naturally rev "high" or is that partly a result of the break-in period, i mean at 140kmh on the highway in 6th, im at around 4k rpm...i know this is a different engine type than i am used too, so that just may be normal, but my sclass, would cross 200kmh before even 4k rpm...i know they are 2 different types of car, just new to bmw, and i am not used to cruising along in a car revving so "high", i feel like its bad for it (not in terms of the break-in period, i am not crusiing at a constant speed, at least trying.).
thanks again
also, will acceleration be significantly different on summer tires/.

The M engines are all high reving engines. It does take some getting use to, but that's the way the engine/tranny are designed. It'll allow you to shift a little less on the track since you have so many revs to use, particularly since the torqe curve is very flat for such a high reving engine.
There's a BIG debate about getting more power after the first service. Some people claim BMW tech's have told them they will get more power after the first service and full power after 3000 miles when the engine is fully broken in. No one know's for sure if any of this is true.

xtra Hp...???
Nah urban legend...lol
It sharpens the throttle response...nothing more/nothing less...and I agree w/the other poster...it really works like an on/off switch but it is noticable.
Good Luck

thanks again guys, after the first service, will the engine rev lower, ie at 100kmh it will still be at 3krpm in 6th, or will this change...i dont think it will but maybe the different oil will have some effect> so it is not bad for an engine like this to cruise at 3500rpm on the highway, not in break-in for long periods though
