Is 2006 M5 good car? looking to purchase...

As much as I love my 2004 E55 AMG, looks like I have to trade-in this month. She just hit 100k miles, and service light turned on. I do not want to continue to pay for more repairs/services. I need a car with bumper2bumper warranty again.

So I'm looking at this 2006 M5. Please let me know if 2006 M5 model is a good car/have no issues.

Thanks in advance!

nothing speaks against the M5..

I don`t own a E60 M5 but I can tell that it`s a totally different experience compared to the E55

hard shifts(SMG),a high revving V10 with much less low end torque and less comfort than in a Mercedes will be the price

and passengers will hate the SMG

Thanks!

I decided not to pick-up an STi for daily driving. The outcome of course, my AMG is getting beaten up more and more (DD car), so I really need to trade-in soon.

BTW: I'm still looking for a white F355 GTB w/red interior. If you know any sellers, PM me.

stock to stock the E60 M5 blows away your E55...this is coming from someone who's owned both cars. I currently drive the M5, it's also a 2006. Ya its not as comfortable as the Merc, but driving this car is something else you feel like you're a part of the car, you have a relationship with it. I know this all sounds very corny but such a feeling cannot be described. You will not regret your 2006 m5 purchase, especially at these prices today.

I agree ^^^^ M series cars just feel so good. Nothing corny about that statement at all. I'm looking to get in an M5 around the end of March. There is an '06 with 20k miles located right near me and its exactly what I want (asking $51K).....I am so damn tempted to go drive it now but bonus/commission payout doesn't come until the end of March.

Good price and good mileage. Price of them went down now. It's an amazing car. Take a look at my thread of mine, I just posted some pictures after I slapped on the new wheels. It's a breath taking car and with the Eisenmann Race, ASR, or Meisterschaft exhaust it sounds intoxicating.

I'm glad to see the M5 for sale (in my area) is within the same price range/mileage. I'm very tempted to pick-up the silver M5 this weekend, but at the same time, I want to do more research to make sure it is the right car for me and my family.

I seriously love AMGs, and prefer to get an E63 AMG instead, but the price tag on E63s are still out of this world (not in my budget) so M5 is my next target.

Oh and you'd be surprised how the M5 compares to the E63...You should hear stories from people that have owned many AMGs and own the M5...thats where it gets real interesting. M5 is the best money can buy right now I believe. It really is an amazing car.

Not true, not true at ALL........I have NEVER had ANY Passengers complain about the SMG.......If I am trying to impress them.......then the hard shifts IMPRESS them......if I am driving kids and grandparents around....then I drive accordingly and they are just FINE.....as far as less comfort....of course......it's more of a sports car

you really should check out the m5 board....not to scare you, but there have been significant issues with some of the 06 m5's....the 'cog of death' is a common phrase known to early e60 m5 owners. it does sound like many of the issues have been sorted through however, so your chance of getting a 'good one' is probably decent. major smg issues, lots of other software problems, etc....lousy gas mileage and a relatively small tank and the bmw i-drive are the other things talked about over there..overall most owners have really liked the car. they have collapsed in the used market and probably do represent good value for what you get. i think someone above mentioned an 06 with 20k miles for $51k--that actually sounds on the high side, with lots of good examples trading in the $40's now....even a few 07's. gl!!
