I'd trade the evo too! Prices are getting quite nice for both of these cars.

1. Do you have any children?

2. Which one do you find more asthetically pleasing?

Answer these questions and I can give you an answer.

M3 = ***** out race car
M5 = ***** out highway monster.

Watch the repair costs though. If you have any more questions PM me.

I have an e39 M5 and I'm keeping that thing until it becomes a classic. I love the car and would recommend it. It may be difficult to find a low mileage example, but they're out there. I'd look for a 2001-02 as they were updated mid way through the life cycle of the range.

I have had both as well. I sold the M3...
I think the M5 is timeless....... The cost can be pretty manageable if you don't have a problem doing the work. Cam sensors are expensive to have installed.... but are really a piece of cake... just an example.

I had a 02 m3. I loved it, but ive always wanted the e39 m5. It has everything you need. It's roomy, powerful, fast, sleeper, and i think its one of the last beautiful bmw's. So when a 02 m5 lemans blue/blue black interior came along i had to trade my m3 for it. The only thing I miss is the m3's handling. Other than that I think that the E39 is the best car money can buy!!!!!
