Drove X5M today
You totally missed my point! I never said anything about its power to weight ratio. obv it better be quick given its got 550 hp. my concern is about the extra weight it carries.
I never said the cayman S was slow. its a quick car and can outhandle anything bmw has ever made. if i want pure speed, i have a sport bike that even your z06 would have trouble keeping.

I think you are the one that's missing the point! I have a plane that's faster than your sport bike!
What does that have to do with the topic? Aren't you suppose to be in school?

I have a CTT and for the money it costs I think its one of the ****ing ****iests truck you can buy. Big dissapointment, when I leased mine with all the great options PDCC.... it comes stock with this junky 255/55/18 inch rims the car handles like a piece of junk. Brakes down. my PDCC Unit maybe broke 4 times. Leaking fluid ect. The turbos SUCKKK. They dont stop leaking boost. I sent it into porsche they didnt fix it. they need to improve on these little things. When I saw the X5 M I knew automatically it was the right truck. Priced Right! comes with huge 275 front rims, and 315 rears... witch that alone with make the car handle great. its lighter then the CTT and faster then the CTTS.. so all you don't no **** when you say the this thing wont handle as good as a gts or a ctt. I guarantee it will. Beemer makes a more practical, much better along the line car. Oh and maintenance, I need new Rotors, New Pads just about every 8 dam monthes costs "only" a couple of grand (they rip you the **** off porsche-they shouldve never came out with a truck. Bmw has the BEST service for its class. Free Rotors and Brake pads, and wipers... with porsche having all that done will prob cost you 1-3 grand every time.. I go through brakes every 8 months. I dont even take it to porsche to change. they clearly RIP YOU OFF... they should've never came out with the effin truck. Also sit in the back of the Cayenne tell me how roomy it is, its like sitting in a ford escape, the seats are sooo upright... go sit in the X5 M in which I sat in at BMW of Manhattan. 4 of my friends all own M's including my brother. Great service great car all around. Porsche just dosnt make a practical truck for its price. the base cayenne is a RIP off its so crazy and to maintain it, costs even more.. full of head-aches. not an everyday truck. I like the X5 M over the X6 M. I just never got what the back of the X6 is about. its way to disproportionate, if you look at the dimensions bet the 2 the X6 is wider longer, and just a couple inches less high then the x5 m... bottom line is this 86k truck managed to beat all its competition including the the whole Porsche truck line, comes with more things standard that would prob cost 1-4 k each on the cayenne such as the panoramic roof, and PDK the to most need options, not only that it beats out the CTTS which is so expensive its not even practical might as well buy a chip. Dont even try and tell me the ML "mercades" will handle better then any of these ****in trucks, for all I know that thing will flip if you try and drift it. I have taken my CTT to the MAX... Drifted it in any kind of weather condition, little angry I got stuck with the little rims (which i powder coated black), but it handles pretty well but from the day it broke (THE FIRST ****ING WEEK I GOT IT!!!!!!!!!! FIRST ****ING WEEK THE PDCC BROKE! I WAS DRIVING IT LIKE A PUPPY! IT BRAKES) Porsche did absolute nothing! to compensate me NOTHING.. so **** THEM. Theyre going to ****. The only car I would consider getting from them is their 911's. Everyone who owns the CTT will 90% run into turbo problems.. and porsche will fix bits and pieces until replaces the entire turbo system.. my friends 335 BMW had problems with his waist gates the put him Brand new spankin turbos... his steering wheel started to get worn... they replaced that two. New Brakes, New Rotors, New Wipes... all time in a timely matter.. good loners, great service. I highly recommend ANY BMW, theyre consumer intelligent. Its about the Consumer, not the car itself. I take my car in for service and they wont warranty nothing they try and blame things on me (oh you didnt change the oil.... or oh because this broke and you dindt fix it that broke, so now you have to pay) **** them. Porsche was never ment to be a massed produced car/truck company they just dont know what theyre doing. Its like putting eating a Tuna sandwich with honey and sugar. Just dosnt make sense. Im an X5M Fan and im waiting for my lease to be up to order me that fine vehicle... porsche is charging me 2200 a month (28 month lease) to treat me like dick, I wrote to Porsche North America but they suck too **** them also, they dont like to please theyre customers.
BMW is trying too hard with M versions of their X's. I do believe they are overdone -- trying too hard to not be an SUV. It defies the whole purpose of these cars.
I thought I would like one and was ready to trade in a 1 year old ML63 for one but... it felt like I was trading down for a vehicle that compromises on just about everything. It's not an SUV and it's not a sports car.
ML63 has that perfect balance of luxury, sportiness and comfort that I expect from a car in this segment. Mercedes had the right vision for it and it's masterfully executed. I love this car. It is really that good.
I realize it's a BMW section but I also think it's important to voice individual opinions. Customer feedback is the only feedback that should matter.
I have had BMWs (2 M3's, 2 M Coupes, e60 M5...) and they have been great. All of them. In my opinion, there is no valid business case behind XM's.

No business case? Really? It's the same business case as Mercedes has/had for the ML63 (add more power to a 'sport' SUV) except (IMO) BMW has improved on the breed.
Obviously some opinions are subjective, like which looks better - but some things such as quickness, space, handling, efficiency are objective and I think the real world will bear out that BMW 'wins' in these categories.
I looked at the ML63 and in spite of a nice normally aspirated engine/sound, couldn't get past the so/so handling, the looks, and the un-updated electronics package.
Two ways to slice an apple - thank God we have choices.
BTW - what Mercedes dealership do you work at?

I wanted to order one to replace my ML63, but after driving it, I am not so sure.
The interior was OK, but dash was not leather like my truck, although I hear that for an extra $3800, it can be added as a factory option. Ride was Ok but no better than my ML. Handling seems crisper than my ML, but to be honest, its a truck so the ML handles good enough for me. The iDrive has a nice high resolution screen and its stereo is better than mine. However, I am not sure it's a better SUV for my purpose than my ML63. Maybe its the newness of the engine compared to the broken-in engine of my ML, but my truck seems quicker off the line by a noticeable margin. Maybe the ML is lighter?
I am going to take a look at the Cayenne Turbo S and see. I really want to like the X5 since I really like BMW's electronics. Maybe I need to drive a different one in case that particular one was too new or not tuned properly.
We'll see.

I illustrated P2W to help you understand that there would be a significant difference between your drive in a X6 35i to a ///M version.
So you want to talk about weight as it pertains to handling, but not as it pertains to speed/quickness? OK, then see my post about how the 'lowly' X6 50i spanked the 'GTS' – which responds directly to 'weight it carries' and to you assertion that the GTS handles better than the X6M (or X5M) for that matter.
and
While you are clearly entitled to your opinion, the facts don't agree with you. The ///M X5 or X6 will absolutely walk a GTS in straight line speed and quite likely on any road course you could find.
It is also very likely that both the X5M and the X6M would be faster around most road courses than a Cayman S. Unless you're racing around a KMart parking lot.
I'll reiterate my suggestion that you drive some of these vehicles you're writing about. Will clear up some of your mis-assumptions.

Wow, nice rant! Sorry you've had so much bad luck...and I only read the first few sentences (mainly b/c the grammer and spelling errors were driving me crazy). Good luck with the X5///M.
I would pass on the X5M and go with a Cayenne Turbo S.. more tuneable and a fun car to drive overall. Lots of low end torque for city/daily driving.
I think BMW M division has really got it wrong making badging the X5 and the X6 as M cars. What's the point? Couldn't they have made it an M5 with M package instead of badging them as M cars?
Ridiculous.. they are really just that desperate to latch on the M brand to get more buyers

The M-turbo puts out 500 foot pounds at 1500 rpm.. I assure you it's plenty and you don't have to wait 3 seconds for it to hit.

Those desperate Germans. They build an SUV that trumps the competition (CTS/ML63), sell a bunch to performance car (M) buyers who want a great handling, fast daily SUV and don't feel like paying the $40K (pure profit) premium for the CTS and/or may not prefer the looks of the ML. They make a bunch of money. Yeah, they're not so smart...

Why is it when the performance superiority is no longer in question, the 'subjective' stuff always gets tossed on the table of last resorts?
This must be the angle you're referring to - where the X5///M looks a LOT better than the open mouthed Toureg, er Pepper. (and I've compared the better looking GTS)

Look familiar at all?

however, i do like the interior of x5m. so far, i love driving cayenne but i guess i just have to test drive one (x5m).
