Will this sub/box/amp combo fit in my E46 M3?
Will this sub/box/amp combo fit in my E46 M3?
Its 27 inches wide by 12 inches high by 10 inches deep.
It will be mounted in the trunk/rear speaker area.
I measured (actually I measured my C63....my M3 is in the shop) and I think I have enough room.
However my stereo installer is all hell bent on doing custom enclosures which of course will cost a ton of money.

Yes, it has Ipod, bluetooth and I will add the Sirius.
Main goal his is to make the car enjoyable for my 70 mile commute.
Don't know if you heard, but the engine blew and I am putting in a remannied motor and going to run about 8lbs of boost.

Yes, I read about it, that sucks. How many miles did the car have on it with the SC? How much boost were you running? What caused it to blow?

18lbs..tuning. Was trying to get help from the original tuner for many months w/ no luck and she went. I put 15K on the SC, she had 5K before that.
BTW, should I go with the custom subwoofer boxes?
Dr. Jitsu morning! I've got a somewhat similar setup but in my BMW e90. Instead of the 994 I chose the Kenwood KIV700 comparable HU to the one you'll be getting but yours will have CD player capability as to where the 700 doesn't. Over all I'm very pleased with the Kenwood. I went with Kenwood instead of Alpine, Pioneer and Clarion because it is much more user friendly and gives you the best bang for your money. My review is the 4th one down on by TI23 on following link:

I'm using two 12" Kickers in my setup with a much bigger ported box instead of the 10"s with sealed you'll be using. Your going the right route but my question is do your rear seats drop down? What type of music do you listen to? Sealed boxs typically need more power to be able to match a ported boxes volume but sealed is more accurate punch. If your rear seats don't drop down you won't be getting as much bass as you would if they're dropped down or your ski pass thru is open. Believe me as I've been there, done that. Forget what the installer is wanting to do with a custom subwoofer enclosure just his way of getting lots of $$ from you. If the included box doesn't work out for your car there's plenty of other 10" sub boxes in the H-town area you can try out rather than get a custom one. Good luck with your e46 and I'd like to check it out next time I'm in the H-Town area if ok with you.
Cheers!

Thanks bud, great post!
Help me envision my set up. The sealed boes would be installe behind the seats/in the trunk with the speakers facing up, the back of the box facing down in the trunk, one side of the box up against the seats, and the other side well in the trunk.
Does that make sense?

Is there a space saving reason for facing them upwards and closer to rear of seatback?
I have mine closer to the rear of the trunk and as far away from seat back as possible. The subs are facing the rear (looking at you when trunk is open). Your bass won't be as loud as is 1) sealed box 2) subs facing upwards. Once you get system installed position sub box different ways in the trunk but I'm confident rear facing yields better output. I've been into car audio since 1991 and have had countless systems in every car I've owned. Always ended up with box facing as stated above.
Any Eqs or bass enhancement devices planned or just as is?

I read your review....heads up on the MB Quarts. I have a 4 year old pair in my GT2 and back then they were top of the line.
However the word is that their quality has gone down. Just FWI.
Now onto your subwoofers, they are facing away from the inside of the car? Interesting....and the sound is good, you say?
I am definitely going to get a good amp for the subwoofers.

I have always had quality tunes with Harman (factory) or JBL aftermarket would recommend either... as for headunit, I was a big alpine fan, but ive had it with limitations of the many aftermarket headunits and looking to explore a little into car computers (carputers). They also integrate with most ECUs through USB or parallel ports which gives you realtime data that your car offers up and ability to diagnose any warning lights as they come up...
I think the box you mention should fit your e46, usually good quality subs one 12" or two 10" would sound clean and give you plenty of bass. Make sure your audio guy builds box using MDF usually 1" is good and liquid nails to seal it up real well, its good practice to pollyfil for damping in the box..
hope this helps.. good luck!!
