Going from 911 S to '11 M3 6sp

Lease on '09 911S PDK is coming to an end and i have a fabulous deal on an '11 M3 Coupe, 6sp, competition package. Question, the 911s is my everyday car (believe it or not) . I am looking for something slightly larger, more practical, with a bigger trunk but still handles great and is quick. Does the M3 fit the bill from those in the know how? Reading lots of articles it seems so. Anyone who owns or has owned a current M3 coupe is there any nuances i should know about? Is the start/stop function a real pain or is it always off? ANy other suggestions would be greatly appreciated!! Thank You

i dont own an m3, but i have spent a LOT of time researching that particular car.

in terms of fit and finish, you will take a huge step down. there are rattles when you drive fast in an m3. i heard that there maybe rattles on the porsche 911, but its worst on a m3. the highest grade of leather that they use on the m3 (novio leather) is comparable to the bottom of the barrel on p cars.

the m3 def sounds like it fits the bill. it can sit 4 grown adults, and is a great comprimise between sport and luxury. emphasis on the comprimise, as the m3 will not handle nearly as well as you c2s or be as fast. it is the last proper s engine built by ///m as they begin to move to turbos....which is what ///m is not about. but, def get zcp (comp package).

also, there are ///m specific colors that are reserved specifically for ///m cars. it helps differentiate your car from the common 328. id suggest you check out:
silverstone (MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE)
interlagos blue
jerez black
melbourne red

good luck. oh, and make sure you pay no more than 500 over invoice. m3s go for cheap with the looming release of the f3x redesign.

Where did you get this "reasearch" from?
Where did you "hear about" the rattles?
Have you even sat in either car? You sound like a 17 year old kid.

He may be a 17 y/o kid, but he's right. This is a prevalent issue.

M3 is still a good car, actually an excellent car, but it's not without its niggles...

Comparing performance of a 911 & M3 is fair. Comparing build, fit/finish/ NVH would be step-down for the M3.

Ive driven a 997.1 C2 and an E92 M3 around a track. And let me tell you, the 911 was much much better. Compared to my 997.2C2S, the m3 doesn't compare at all. Sure you get more practicality, but that's about it.

other forums. i dont want to name names because it might be against the rules. dont want to get banned.

i have driven m3. like i said, i have yet to own one, but i have a pretty good idea what the m3 e9x platform is about. many owners complain about rattles. they are especially upset that they spend 70-80k for a car that rattles, making it sound like an old car. it has been well discussed in other forums. try doing a simple search.

i am young, but i would argue that there is no strong correlation of intelligence and age.

thank you. i really appreciate it.

to the op, you also have to buy your own floor mats separately. i know its not a big deal, but i think its stupid that they nickle and dime you when you spend around 70k for a new car.

Do you recall the money factor as well as how much they required as a cap reduction for those terms?
