I'm still considering a used E46M3. My budget is about 40K. What are 03's going for generally? Also, would it be best to buy a car from BMW w/ a warranty, or just private party and buy an aftermarket warranty?

it would definitely be best if you could get a BMW certified one for sure, they are worth a little more $ that way though

definately get a BMW certified warranty. Also, request a copy and explaination of the service history.

check out how many times and for what the car was in for service.

 

BMW warranty is pretty crappy even their orig 4 yr warranty refuses to cover many items.

If you are getting 03, you still have 1-1.5 yr of warranty. Also, the engine is extended to 10 yr/100k mi. I'd buy 3rd party and pocket the savings on cpo or aftermarket warranty.

Chockout roadfly. 40k is a bit on the low side for 03 but maybe doable.

 

I just bought 02 M3 with certified used. it had 37k miles.
Initially, i wanted to get 03 with 11k miles.

but i really got good money for trade-in and the BMW dealership gave me 3k discount on it. so i decided to buy relatively high mileage car. (i got 5k more than the other dealer gave me for trade-in).

anyway, i ended up with paying 36k out door for the car. the car has evrey option but nav, aluminum trim (which i am gonna buy soon), and 19s.
