i started a thread a little before titled "anyone have a m5 at msrp" a lot of people replied in there so you might find yourself some useful information. its really not that hard you just have to look in some less popular/more unlikely places. people posted saying some were below msrp!

Steve,

Congrats, I am assuming the dealer was New Century? They supposedly had 14 M5's in inventory.

Congratulations Steve. What did the Indy red look like? Was it appealing? What do you thing of SMG III compared to the SMG II from the M3? What are your overall impressions of the car so far?

I did not like Indy Red much. It's not BAD, but it didn't appeal to me. I really don't like red cars in general though (or really red anything for that matter), so perhaps i'm not a good judge.

The SMGIII is way smoother than the SMGII. In the M3, the D modes were almost completely useless because of the jerkiness. I almost always have the car in S3-4-or5 but occassionally I've flipped it to D3 while I was fiddling with something and it's been totally tolerable.

The car is fantastic. It's much more solid than I expected. I was sort of expecting a sports car that has 4 doors. It's more like a luxury sedan that accelerates and handles like a sports car.

There is a huge difference between P400 and P500/500S. Also the suspension settings make a huge difference. It really is multiple cars in one. In P400 on the softest suspension settings, it's basically a 550. Then hit the M Button and bump it into P500S with stiffer suspension and it's really a monster of a car.

So far, I would say it's probably the best car I've ever had. Most fun? No that's a tie between Elise and S2000. Most luxurious? RR Phantom by far. But the M5 is super solid, well built and well thought out. I have yet to find any fault with it other than I wish the exhaust note were a bit more aggressive, it's too quiet.

did Supersprint race & Eisenmann race. Supersprint is not impressive but certainly louder than stock. Eisenmann, man, if i drive home a M5 next month this exhaust is the reason. it sounds very close to a Ferrari 550 with Tubi exhaust.

I thought SS and EM were the same company, or made by the same co?
Is the sound problem at idle and low speeds only- I thought the M5 at WOT sounded great

don't think so Paul. they look completely different.

M5 sounds good but in stock form u hear the engine more than the exhaust. after the exhaust u hear it more than the engine. to each of his own.
